I'm in the market for an armorur who works spring steel

Post by RoaK »

This is it; this is the kit I'll be buried in. I want it done right.

Late 14th century. I'm doing the legs and arms first. I'm also need the garments (several sets) made that goes with the armor... I'll be wearing my current kettle helm and Gretter gauntlets.

I'm willing to use modern stuff UNDER the armor as long as the look is authentic on the outside. I had a hip replacement so Doc says make the armor light as possible and protect the hip (zoombang shorts?).

Here's what I'm thinking of... sort of my current look but with proper arm and leg armor done in sping steel.
Sorry if the pictures are of people's stuff here.

Target date for this armor is next Pennsic. PM me if you’re interested in a commision or have a suggestions for an armorer.

Just in case he doesn't see this, Kenwrec Wulfe does work in spring steel. I think you have met him when you were in Chicago (if you are the Roak I met at the Chicago practice a few years ago).

Plattnerei Stallari now works in 1050 Spring. Currently building 1480's Italian jousting harness, and greaves and Churburg breastplate. Also elbows, both low wing and Italian flared. Arm harness and leg armors a specialty. Contact me here and we can talk style, weight and materials.

+1 on Kenwrec! Not only does he work in Spring Steel, He's anal about authenticity! And I say that with upmost respect in his work because it's just crazy in his pursuit of "getting it right"!

Talon Armory does work in Spring and Spring Stainless - I know he is working on another rig of that period this winter. You can find him on Facebook and Etsy. I have a certain bias having known him over 25 years, but he is one of the most talented armourers (and least known) working today.

Have you talked to the fellow who's pics you posted, Jeffrey Wasson? (or better known in the society as Master Jeffrey the Younger.) I know he's a busy fellow, & not cheap, but you wouldn't be disappointed w/ the results.

PMed ya!
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. -Aristotle

+1 for Mad Matt, I've got some splinted arms/legs and plate sabatons from him, great communication and much faster than expected turnaround time
