This is the blade that drove me nuts forever because I could not figure out what to call it.
Its simply too large to be a sgain dubh- but I had no idea what else to call it....
Someone told me it was in the range of what he called an "armpit knife", from Scots and Irish usage, so thats what I'll tentatively call it.
However you want to name it, its for auction here now.
The blade is carbon steel. 5 1/2 inches long.
Brass hardware, and a nice looking cherrywood grip.
The blade is backbeveled, so theres no true flat. (its not beveled enough to be a double edge.) And its very sharp.
This would make a trusty sidearm for anyone with an Irish, Scots or other persona, with some crossover into the rest of the isles.
This is a very nice piece of work from me, and likely to be unique.
(I used a blade I'd had lying around in rough form for nearly 20 years....I have no others like it, and my tastes in design are different now.)
I'll open the bidding at $50.
Does not come with a sheath because so many folks seem to want to make their own.
I can add one for another $25 or so.
Shipping will be $15 sent priority mail with insurance and delivery confirmation.
(Edit-Overseas buyers, shipping is more. Talk to me for a quote.)
I'll run this auction for 7 days...Ending Friday the 30th.
