Mid 14th century German splinted and studded *new pics*

Post by Kenwrec Wulfe »

Lastest project. Based off a couple of german effigies.
The polyens from Johannes von Falkenstein: http://www.effigiesandbrasses.com/monum ... /original/
and the splinted and studded concept from Günther von Schwarzburg:

There will be matching shynbalds, vambraces and rerbraces to follow...

Nice looking stuff there man. What did you use for the studs? Looks like you will have a pretty spiff kit when you are done!

Cheers!

Hi Kenwrec,

That is what I'd like... with a bit wider splints. Cant wait to see the rest of it.

Happy Holidays.

should make the splints more narrow like the one pic but make the studs actually attach an inner splint to help reinforce the front ones.

I was originally going to do that, but I wanted a little more thigh protection, so that is a solid steel plate on the underside. All the protection of a full cuiss with the look of splinted and studded. :D

I'm guessing the studs are 3/16 dia shank brass rivets with a decorative washer behindthem...so yes, where DID you get those washers? They are indeed quite spiff.

Specifically the low-dome, Oxford/Daisy upholstery tacks. Punched out the center and used 1/8" shank rivets. You can get many for cheap, if you are willing to put in the labor of punching out the center of each one...

Impressive...most impressive. The armorsmithing of Kenwrec Wulfe is definitely a force to be reckoned with. 8)

All kidding aside, this is very inspiring work.
