Had a talk with zoombang today...

Post by RoaK »

I called zoombang today to check on an order I had with them and got to talking about thier product and our sport. They seemed very perceptive to listening to my suggestion of extending the leg coverage back 4 more rows to cover the true back of the leg... I even talked to the design guy. The picture here is of the current short, the medieval combat one would have the pads extend 4 more rows around the leg.

Who knows they may offer it…

They will make pretty much anything you want. When I was working on this project, the reason the extended padding was dropped was because the more padding you put on the shorts, the less they expand. The fear was that with that much padding on the leg, that they would not expand enough to fit the sizing needed.

I think the four extra rows would be excellent. In the mean time, don't they sell the different sections of padding? Wouldn't it be relatively cheap to add the sections of four to current models of the leg?

Sir Omarad posted the photo below of the individual pads for shirts (prices were from a few months ago).

#5 & #6 look like they might be the same as the ones on the thigh in the shorts.
Call and ask.

I recommend getting the pads without the shorts, then put them on some shorts you know already fit (or make some that fit). I also don't recommend wearing JUST the shorts for leg protection, if that makes a difference (from firsthand experience).

I'm talking to Tom about making a shirt out of that mesh jersey stuff they use as redshirt material on football teams. I don't know what it's called but it's basically just giant mesh jersey fabric. it would breathe better, and since those jerseys are made huge to go over football pads, they would probably fit better too.

I think there needs to be a sticky zoombang thread, there seems to be a lot of discussion and useful information scattered all over the place lol.

Tom's going to dig around and see if he can find somebody willing to make a mesh jersey to spec.

fyi in case anybody's interested, he said they've sold about 400 of these since gulf wars last year, so they're quite happy.

I second the idea of a sticky, we have info is all over the place in several threads, pulling it all together would greatly help people new to the product(like yours truly) who have gotten all kinds of good input from many of the fine Brothers in Armor here. :) I would also suggest including a subsection for the Skeletools gear as well, since I have also read several things about this product as well. Maybe a Sticky called "Zoombang/Skeletools Info"...:)

Or just a single thread with links to all the threads with info. I thought about this earlier, now I'm just trying to decide if I'm too lazy to do it lol.
