BON fund raiser / cigar interest thread - baby update

Post by Adric13 »

A buddy and I were at the local cigar store yesterday shopping and talking. Several of the guys smoking there were very interested in this combat silliness once the conversation strayed from bikes to armor. Which, long story short, strayed to "hey that picture on the shield would make a cool cigar band". Which evolved quickly into how would that work to I know a guy to this only takes a phone call to some one handing off a phone to one of us saying "talk - his English is fine but he's factory rep in hondouras..."

So - we are looking raise so cash to help buddy pay for his BON trip while not stepping on anyone else's toes with current shirt sales or other stuff.

Which leads us to cigar sales. This is just an interest thread cause we need to pay for em up front. There are some min order issues but if it looks like a winner we will proceed from there.

The factory is one that makes cigars for several big name players you know and love. The ones we are looking at ordering have rated 90, 91, 93, & 93 the last 4 times they rated by the magazines. Yes thats really good. Price wise we are looking at 12-13$ each for singles, 10/each if your buying a box, and are waiting on final pricing from the factory before working up a presale discount.

The store sells the same ones we were looking at anywhere from 9-22$ depending on size and "brand" even tho they all come out of the same factory.

One hurdle is the government - taxes run 23% right of the top just to get in the door so your loving uncle will be makin more on this gig than we will - but it would be cool to have something very unique.

Boxes will be 20 per box.

im curious would if be possibly to be allowed to chip in not to buy for personal use but to buy in for helping pay bulk stock and getting half of their percentage of profit and the other half donated toward BON?

basically what i mean is if i put forth 400 bucks and that gets say 20 boxes and you sell those 20 at 100 dollar profit. would you be able to give me back 50 and donate 50 and send the 400 back to restock? that way those who put money forth can make a marginal profit AND BON can get donations as well making it a win win =)

Im not opposed to your invest idea but there is a distinct possibility that we Order these and don't sell enough to make it worth while and you lose money rather than make a couple bucks. Now that is obviously not the intention but if we have to order 10 boxes for example and only ever sell 7 of em we still hav yet to break even let alone pay for air fare or what ever else the money was slated for, we will just put them in a humidor and smoke em during football games or poker night and talk about how another great idea wasn't such a great idea after all. Mean while your pissed.

So think about that and we can touch base a bit once the factory gets back to us on costs and all.

Part of what we have to wait for too is the have their version of the colege of heralds and have to look at out proposed band and see if it's close to anything that ever been used before. If so we have to change it or it's off limits. International trademarks and all. Oh yea!

Filler, binder, and wrapper as well as size and shape are still up for grabs but all that can be chosen we just ain't there yet and we didn't ask what the specifics were on the well rated ones were. It's an over sight on our part but we just wanted to make sure they didn' t suck and they shot back with a 93 rating from CA and that these are on the shelf in te humidor behind us under several different brands and they were infact very good smokes. We were just happy this crazy idea might actually work

Let me know. I'm good for a couple sticks at least.

A friend of mine is opening a shop(I think in March), really knows his stuff. I can swing by his place with a couple sticks, see if he's interested in buying a box or so. FWIW, if others are regulars at a shop, maybe try the same path.

You can mark me down for at least three sticks... I may be able to generate some more business with some buddies of mine that are going to cigarfest with me this year. If so, maybe we can split a box.

Great idea btw.

They have been trying for a while and literally the same weekend we went and got this ball Rollin he had been at the docs trying to figure out if he was having problems and then that night his Wife peed hot on the take home test.
