Anyone used Square for larger CC transactions?

Post by Egill's Woodstuffs »

Square looks like a good deal and my contract is coming up on my CC machine. I'm looking to maybe save a few bucks by switching over. Paypal is trying to kick me in the "no no place" again so I stop using them as well.

I know a few people use Square for CC processing and it's great for smaller transactions but I was wondering about larger transactions over $500. I see in the fine print they MAY hold funds up to 90 days to prevent fraud.
Has anyone run into this?

Thanks for any input!

It could be but you would have to do a manual entry of the card number and that cost you 5% of the sale price

We switched to Square and used it at Pennsic last year. Ran several hundred transactions and it worked flawlessly. Processed 67 orders in 4 hours at Midnight Madness, something we could NEVER do with any other system we've used. I also just used it at Caid 12th Night a month ago. 0% problems, 100% user satisfaction, 100% customer satisfaction, although many people find signing with their fingertip weird.

It would be 100% perfect, if it worked in England. (Maybe it does if you have an iPhone in England- we don't, so I don't know.)

Used it for GW last year, lillies, up with you at WOW and any other we do. Love it. I don't think I have ever had a single trasaction over 500 but have a had transfers of several thousand by the end of the event go through with no problem. The only hic up can be with AT&T and the sporadic suck ass cell service. That seems to off set in my book by not getting ripped off with bad card numbers you don't find out about till after the fact.

Is it a straight 5% fee on ALL transactions?

What is the significance of the $500 figure? Do they charge more for transactions above that?
