WTB: Travel armor bag

This might not be the right place for this, but it seemed more out of place in the combat forum. For those who travel by air with their armor (including shield) what do you use as your armor bag? I have a kit shield which needs to go inside (though length doesn't seem to be the issue in bags I've looked at). I haven't found anything that's really wide enough. Golf bags were recommended to me but I haven't found anything that works. Any idea are welcome.

Back when I used to take my armor on business trips, it would all fit into a hockey bag, or an army surplus duffel bag. I have a cardboard "box" shaped for my shield that I would then bungy cord to the bag. I've never been able to find a bag big enough to fit the shield and the armor.

way back in the day i saw a guy who had a piece of canvas cut, so he could lay his shield on it, then stack his armor and helm neatly, and bundle it up like a christmas present
a few straps and it was pretty sturdy with the shield acting as support for the bottom of the bag

Hockey bag depending on the size of the shield. Not the 'backpack' style but the long goalie bags. Some of them even have wheels

I strongly recommend the wheeled hockey bags. You may want to take up sword and buckler (I did) as most conventional heaters will not fit in any bag, or make another bakg for the shield. Also be aware of the 50pd limit for your armor bag - they will tag you hard if it's overweight.

I've also seen some hard golf bags that looked intriguing for carrying SCA Kit and weapons, but I've not tried one yet.

Both can be obtained fairly inexpensively on eBay.

As someone who has to fly to travel to events in the states or sometimes even in other parts of the kingdom, I would recommend a hockey bag. Look at the length when purchasing. You will find that you have alot of extra room in the bag so be careful of your weight restrictions. Pending your travel you can pack all your stuff in the hockey bag and pay the overweight fee and use your carry on for some things or sometimes keep the weight within "regs" and pay the extra bag fee. It always depends upon the airline, which is the most cost effective method.

Duke Paul has a guide for making a breakdown travel heater (somewhere here on the Archive).

A Flyers Kit Bag (Military Surplus) is a good travel armour bag or a rolling hockey bag.

You can reduce weight in your bag by putting your helm & gaunts into your carry on.

And the looks you get from the TSA folks running the X-Ray machine when you do this are Priceless (I've experienced it first hand a number of times.)

It will hold a flat shield up to 40" by 24".
