Yep. The final 4 consisted of three Ansteorrans and (I think) a squire from CAID. Of the three Ansteorran
squires only one had a shield while the other two were florentine and katana.

It was won by Sven Randalsson, known here as Spyn, using two-sword. His new camp name is "Battlebot 2100".
I'm very proud that the two guys in the finals (Sven and Centurion Dietrich) both hail from our local practice and
are both examples of the best we can try to be.

Ahem. One MINOR point of order, Your Grace: Lorccan was that fourth squire and he is from Gleann Abhann. His knight might be in Caid, but he's ours. We're not giving him back.

Thank you for the correction. I only suspected him of being from Caid because of the crescents on
his shield. Despite my faux pas I was impressed with his fighting ability and grace on the field.

Agreed. Not only does he rock the tourney field, he's one hell of a rapier fighter too. And just an all around spiffy dude.

I swear if he tries to move again I'm going to chain him to a tree or something.

Can't tell you guys how much I regret not being able to make the battles. Just couldn't take the heat. Hate getting old.

ETA: I did get to see the knighting at the Meridian Pavilion, Thursday morning. Congrats!

Your Grace, Lorccan **is** from Caid, we've just loaned him out as part of our cultural embassy...

I am deeply flattered by the kind words about me here. For my part, I can say that the Squire's Tourney was an absolute blast, full of clean and chivalrous fighting by squires of great prowess.

In the final four, Dietrich and I both had shields, and we fought each other. I was coming up from the loser's line, so had to defeat him twice to advance; he was in the winner's, so only had to defeat me once. I won our first fight, he won the second, so he advanced. He was a most courteous and subtle opponent!
Sven was awesome with his two swords, and his final four opponent's name has slipped my mind. He was an Ansteorran with a nice Japanese kit, fighting with what I'd call a nodachi (single-edged, thrusting greatsword about 6'6" long). Said fellow faced Sven undefeated, having shown tremendous skill with his chosen weapon, but Sven bested him in two fights in a row (Sven also coming up from the loser's line), and those fights certainly were a pleasure to watch!
The final was simply excellent, and Sven's wordfame should be spread far and wide for his deeds that day.

This tournament took place after a very full day of fighting - I fought in the Ansteorran Rapier Rose Tourney in the morning, switched kits and joined the armored fighting on the bridges, fought in the field battles, THEN went to the tourney - and yet I left the field feeling uplifted. Heat and fatigue and temper never interrupted the joy of honorable combat on that field.

As for my Kingdom? My war (oval) shield does indeed bear the crescent cross of Caid and the star-and-coffin of the Barony of Starkhafn, because I made it just before I found out that I'd be moving, and I wanted to bear the proud symbols of my SCA home. Now, I've been in Gleann Abhann for just over a year, a loyal subject of the Gleann Abhann Crown, and I love it here, too! I continue to bear my shield proudly, while I work on my Gleann Abhann tabard, and keep trying to convince everyone from Gleann Abhann to go to Great Western War, and everyone from Caid to go to Gulf Wars (can you blame me for trying to have it all?). Whether professional opportunities lead me back to Caid, or I remain here, I am embarrassingly fortunate in the fine people that I am surrounded by!

The control point I was fighting over changed hands more times than I could count. I sweat like I never have before*. An epic battle, to be sure!

*Partly because I kept tromping back uphill to that point, bearing my heavy shield and war sword. I'd planned to fight spear to avoid precisely that, and then my gauntlet blew a thumb rivet in the opening clash of the battle. @#$%!!!

Swete wrote:The bridge battles were epic this year. Those were some of the most vicious charges I have ever seen. Five 15 minute battles to see who controls the red line in the middle of the bridge...Hardly any prolonged spear duals. ^u^
(nothing against spears, but it sucks to be 15 men back on a bridge waiting forever to do anything)
Yeah, the ravine scheduling was a mistake repeated from last year, but the bridge battles were evidence that lessons can be learned! A huge improvement.

The unnamed Ansteorran was Centurion Tarquin. Heck of a guy, and a joy to watch.

Indeed, the praises of Tarquin are sung far and wide, and not just because he seems to have mastered the art of teleportation.

Thanks old friend!

I saw you on the field right after the announcement and wanted to catch you and tell you. But they were already yelling at me about being late to the battle...as usual. :)

The event was phinomenal! My wife's first GW...Yay! Got in a lot of.good fights, hung out with a bunch of great friends andmet some new ones. Was the barroness's punching bag for an evening, and somehow inadvertantly challenged the crowned prince without even opening my mouth. (outcome was a good fight/and getting my butt kicked) partook.in some crazy schenanigans. Saw the introduction of the hello Kitty choppa and the announcement of Marvin's future elevation.

Oh yea..(BigJon)...and i bought some leg wraps.
