What is the boars head made of?

I couldn't tell you exactly, as the only part I had in that banner was the red silk part, but I know the blacksmiths made it out of steel. I'm clueless when it comes to that stuff.

Could be anything. Looking at it again I feel that it's missing the last few bits to set it off. The boots being shoddy is really noticeable, and I wasn't wearing my belt, pouch or any other accessories. Maybe it's the lack of these things?

Good point to make though, it's often the little things you miss that can ruin the illusion!

I think you're right though, it's the lack of accessories that makes it look not quite right.

Belt, a jewel at the throat, a couple of rings and a panache of some sort on the hat would just fill out the picture.

Everything is too clean...

To me it's not so much that it is clean, but that it still looks new and has not been worn enough to get "broken in". The hair style also kind of bothers me (is hairstyle part of soft kit?); I'm not too familiar with 15th century hair, but it seems a bit Justin Beaver-ish.

Honestly, he just dosn't look comfortable in it, much in the same way someone who isn't comfortable wearing a modern suit dosn't look "right" in it.

Its the subconcious look that its a costume, not clothing. Does that make any sense?

This is probably the soft kit I'm most content with from an authenticity point of view and the one thats closest to being finished. Mid to late 11th century Englisc. Wool hose, tunic, hood and woven wool leg wraps, linen undershirt and braies with winchester style belt fittings and turn shoes. Knife and scabbard are just basic ones I forged/made. The authentic boat I'm standing on with the other crew members helps set the scene too lol.

Okay, so I've been holding off to show my soft kit for some time now because there are a few details it's lacking. Alas, today I am extremely bored so figured "why the hell not?" even though some of these details have yet to be added/changed.

This kit is based primarily off of images from the Codex Manesse (c. 1300-1320) and in particular the illustration below, which depicts Herr Dietmar von Ast in traveler's garb. I have worn most of these clothes during the past two Pennsic events in rain and shine, and enjoy the feeling of them very much, even if they don't really keep me very cool!

CLOTHING: The kit includes clothing from Historic Enterprises, including the tunic, chausses, braise and linen bag. The felt hat was purchased at Pennsic and modified with its trim and streamers by yours truly. The pilgrimage badges are exclusively from Billy & Charlie's Pewter Works. The trim on the tunic and linen bag were applied by a seamstress last Pennsic. I have an additional long tunic in olive green, red chausses and several extra pairs of braise and undershirts from Historic Enterprises to interchange with this selection. I crafted the wool cloak myself to match a semi-circle style popular during the time. The shoes are from Revival US and they've been through a lot already, but are not actually turnshoes. I hope to replace them in the near future.

ACCESSORIES: The belt has fittings based on a thirteenth century example from England, and was given to me as a gift by Mikael of Armstreet for a service I provided him at Pennsic. The leather was decorated by myself and the rosettes were purchased from Armour & Castings and applied by me. The brooch is also from Armour & Castings and has had details engraved into it by me. The pouch was made by me to directly mimic an example shown in the Codex, but I would like to replace it with one of the lovely versions made by Willy Trombone in the near future. The dagger was purchased at Pennsic and the sheath was painted by me, while my younger sister made the woven tie for it. Bless her! The cross pendant is silver and belonged to my great grandmother and looks relatively medieval...

Other modifications I hope to accomplish in the near future include a simple purchase from HE of a paternoster set to hang from my belt, adding red fringe to the bottom of my linen bag and the above mentioned replacements of my pouch and shoes.
