You can buy the set of fittings from Raymond's Quiet Press for 600ish? I forget how much exactly.

The Quiet press $600 kit is just the brasses to make a Sutton Hoo. It does not include the helmet.

We can make one for you in stainless steel for $695. Bar cage, brass brows and lifetime guarantee.

Also Windrose has a really beautiful closed face version I saw at Estrelly.

What part of a Sutton Hoo has a bar cage?

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one to wonder at that.

definately confused me but i figured i could have been mistaken, the brasswork from the first post is beautiful, but i would need the whole hat, not just the decoration(this is by no means a right now purchase, its the first step of making my kit period instead of just legal)

ive used a bit of bar work on 2 of my sutton hoo's...i like to cut the area below the moustache out ( like an extended mouth) an fill it with some designed swirls of rod stock...allows water bearers access to you and a bit more breathability, without totally compromising the period look

On a dress sutton hoo that I worked on, they riveted the face plate onto bars to make it stronger. And a few SCA legal sutton hoos have a bar through the eye so they can be big enough.

Might also be putting bars on the spot between the chin and the cheek of the helm, as there is a gap there in the original

Sorry for all of the confusion. We make SCA helms that follow the lines of closed face helms with bar cages for folks who want better vision and breathing. I took it for granted that people would know that but I was not clear.

Cheers!
