Helmet Ring

Post by Dedric »

I'm still fairley new, but how do you get the ring out of the helmet? Even light hits ring loud enough to cause a painful ringing in my ears.

Drill a hole somewhere unobtrusive, near the bottom of the helm - if this doest fix it by itself, then put rivit in the hole - LOOSLY - it should wiggle. That should help.

if appropriate, hang mail off the helmet. Sorbothane padding inside will help too.

A picture of the helmet might help us too.

My helmet rang pretty bad too, i put a strong magnet on the inside. It deadens the vibration out nicely. A friend of mine has a leather strap that goes around the outside that serves the same purpose.

And Ender always points north, so the army doesn't get lost in the woods.

The sound proofing stuff for cars with big woofers and such works...okish. I've heard cork works but that was a total failure when we tried it. Sadly some helms just ring. One good test is to figure out if it is the helm or the bar grill that is ringing. We had an Ironmonger norman that it turns out it was the bar grill that ran. Take a hammer and tape each grill. Hold the others until you find the one that is casing the noise. Sometimes you can weave leather between those bars to deaden it. Looks ugly but works.

I've seen some that just ring too much to be used. Usually, made in India...had a guy bring one to me this year...we worked and worked on it. It just rang like a bell. Useless and some nice sca merchant sold it to him (poor college kid) for several hundred bucks.

closed cell foam padding helps around the inside base of the helm. Also a layer of duct tape helps also for me.

put it in a fire for about 10 minutes... Let cool... Pad it up.

Another method is take a ball peen and whack it with the peen end. Yes you get a dent but the ringing stops. The trick is to find out where the ring is coming from on the helm and hit only that spot.

It's the getting them off again that's the real bother.

We'll be here all week. Try the baby seal with fries.
