Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
AHHHHHHH
I stepped away from my desk and come back to someone being put on a backboard! What happened? It looks like blue and yellow guys are standing around so I don't think it's one of ours...

Even Western style melees with declared death from behind would be better for forcing situational awareness.
I was shocked at how often I ended "dead from behind" here in the Outlands during war practice. I "died" more often from that than from anything else. Situational awareness, teamwork (cover my back!) and and moving more is important.

Ukrain. When everybody walked off the field after the 21 vs 21 fight with them and Russia... he was still laying there. Enter medics.

**Edit to add - Sorry folks, the posts are hitting the AA so fast that I'm way behind. Disregard.**
Clarify for us; was the injury Duke Felix/Scott Frappier in the 1 vs 1's or was ther another injury in the 21 vs 21's and, if so, do we know whom it was?

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Duke Felix walked off the field during his 1vs1. But he lost the fight... I think it was a TKO.
Last I saw before my live feed stalled out, was the Ukrain guy getting a neck brace from the 21 vs 21 fight with Russia.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Atleast 2 injuries in Poland vs Ukraine(?)
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
And another guy down from the 21 vs 21...someone in red.
Looks like knee or ankle from way they are treating him.

So far it looks like if we count victories as NOT having a serious injury, Team USA is doing well. Duke Felix was up and not on a backboard or had an ambulance called.Aaron wrote:Have fun, keep yourself safe and GET VIDEO so we can all armchair quarterback and make comments as we sit in our lounge chairs with Cheetos and say, "I could have done that better!!!...if I were younger...healthier...taller...stronger...more experienced...had $10K to put into spring-stainless armour...and a cheerleading support team..."

Ah, Team USA is back...now to see what they can put into practice. Changing on the fly is hard so ANY progress is good IMO.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
No shields on Team USA? I think they have a plan...they're going to play getto hockey!

Is TeamUSA in white?
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Whoops. Didn't work as well as I wanted it to.
OK, did anybody notice a whole lot of tripping? We were doing good but when one leg doesn't move, down we go (just physics).

NO injuries. We're still doing good on that front.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
the russian are leading this sport far away. If Us have beat poland maybe they have a chance vs Ukraine, but. on the first year it's always hard!
Some of you team have chance on 5vs5.

I think 5 v 5 will be more to our strong suits, just like the 1 v 1s

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Why do you think there would be a change from 21 vs. 21 to 5 vs. 5?
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
on 5 vs 5 it's have another team than the 3 stronger
you can advance farther than lose your 3 fight
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Tripping is very important. I think some great fighters ended up getting tripped.
The USA had a "hang back" tactic this time, and it might have helped.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Proud of the guys. This is a very hard mindset to get into. It's NOT more realistic, in fact I might argue the opposite, but it IS very different. When weapons mean nothing other than leverage tools every aspect of your "combat" changes. Throw in situational awareness issues that can only be trained for in large groups realy and it's a big obstacle to overcome until you have experienced it.
I think they are doing well.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
A member of Team USA went over to say "Nice fight" to their opponents. Chivarly and manners and lack of injuries, we're winning!!!!
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Team USA is doing very well IMO. If I were there, I fear I would not be much of a help. Team USA is really good, and will adjust eventually to the different victory conditions.

Well done Duke Lucan!!!
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Aaron, with 5 on 5 if you don't know where every player is on both sides at pretty much all times, you don't belong on the field. 21 on 21 it's much harder to keep track.Aaron wrote:Why do you think there would be a change from 21 vs. 21 to 5 vs. 5?
So the whole blindsiding thing should not work nearly as well with fewer men on the field - much, much harder to get the surprise factor.

Russia vs. Poland next? That should be a grudge match.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
At least one injury.

The more I watch the 21-21 melees, the more I think "why bring swords to a wrestling match?"

We might want to consider pollaxes, for the hooking of legs (tripping at range). Yes, armchair quarterback.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
These melee battles are won by pushing and grappling and teaming up on single opponents. I see fighters jumping on the back of an opponent and just dragging them down and then quickly running to the next fight. Very brutal and different from what the SCA guys have been used to.
In single duels team USA was doing better since those relied on the use of weapons and the skills of the fighter.

Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
Yep. I saw Team USA fighters running to fight somebody, and end up being tripped by the person they passed. It was just a foot stuck out and the fighter was on the ground. Simple, effective and not taught in our SCA style.
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
That being said PLEASE do not trip me at an SCA event!!!
Re: Follow the Battle of Nations Team
There were only 4 teams! We came in 4th, but still that means there were groups that didn't even show up for this!
