Known World Novice Tourney - Pennsic 41

Post by joleicia »

Middle Saturday Aug 4th, 2012
9am (please be prompt so we can get started ASAP)
Red/White/Blue Tourney List Area

Once again, I will be hosting the Known World Novice Tourney on behalf of my late husband Count Sarnac Ba'adur. It was his baby and he requested I ensure it happen every year.

Details:
This is a tourney for Novice fighters. The format will be a Shark Pool style: small groups fighting round robin - previous years were groups of 8 so every fighter has a minimum of 7 fights. Some of the top fighters moving on to further rounds. Details will be determined on the day of the Tourney depending on the number of fighters that show up.

For the purposes of this tourney, Novice is classified as:
-Any authorized fighter whose PRIMARY RATTAN authorization date falls within two years to the day of the Tourney, INCLUDING time spent authorized in Youth Combat.
(please don't try to squeeze in if you don't qualify, I had being the 'bad guy' to decline you when other former Youth Combatants point out that they used to fight you years ago)

-Is not a member of the Chivalry
-Is not a Peer by right of Arms by their own hand

Tourney victories or positions held on Pennsic teams has NO bearing on qualifying for this event.

**You must be Pennsic inspected to participate and will be required to show helmet sticker to sign in.

Help needed:
-fighters  (can't happen without you)
-fighter cheering squats and support :D (can happen, but not as much fun)
-Ladies of the Rose there will be opportunity to publicly recognize (and grant tokens) to favorite combatants

**Most of all I need members of the Chivalry to help run/constable the list fields. Every year I find myself batting eyelashes at Knights and Masters that find themselves near the field. I am happy to say they have never turned away, but I am disappointed that this has become necessary every year.

Even if you didn't know Sarnac, please come out. Do it for the fighters and for a lady trying to fulfill a promise.

I hope to be there to support this wonderful tourney. I was in the finals of the first won and this tourney has inspired me to run many Novice tourneys in my own Kingdom.

Thank you for the support...my throat still gets tight when I think of you and how you are the first to complete the circle of the dream that Sarnac had. To be able to tell fighters entered in the tourney that a former combatant is now a member of the Chivalry brings home the reality of what is possible and what is attainable.

(when Sir William introduced himself to me years ago and his relation to the tourney and I saw the colour of his belt - I almost cried there on the spot and so wished Sarnac had lived to be there too)

I do hope that if a participant ever reaches the same level in the SCA and/or wins a Crown or Coronet that they would seek me out/contact me...I very much believe in the "full circle" concept and how it can inspire others.

...I'm going to have a hard time letting this tourney go...

A couple of my housebrothers and students have done well in this tourney in the past. It is a good and worthy thing.

Juan Paco was victorious over Abel ap William.
A well fought tourney for all 58 entrants.

A beautiful scroll was given for the Honourable Conduct on the Field award (formally known as Chivalry Prize....thanks Vitus, the other Chiv. got a good chuckle when I mentioned your name as part reason for changing the name) - I hope to have a scanned version of it to post. It was given to Vincnzo.

My token (for beautiful/peroid kit worn) was to Testicles (yes...that's his name and I had to say it out loud and everything) for a very nice Roman kit - even checked that his red tunic was made correctly.

Duchess Rustique gave a token (for Best Death) to Snorri...he also had a nice kit and was front runner to get my token until I found out she had chosen him already :)

Big thank you to all chivalry and non chiv. who came out to help with constabling, marschaling, and water-bearing.

Best news is that Lord Danx (House Sutr's Brood) has offered to take over the tourney after next year - my last year. He knew Sarnac and his household has always had someone entered for every year it's run and his heart is really into ensuring it contuines...all the qualities I'm happy to hand it over to :)
