Thoughts wanted - Basketless shield basket

Post by Ingvarr »

I'm making my first ever strapped heater shield, or rather I'm strapping and painting it. I'm putting a guige strap on it and don't really want a basket sticking into my back. Also, my Torvaldr gauntlets have pretty much died. They are still stiff, but far from hard so i think I'm going to retire them. What I want is something that will protect my hand, satisfy the marshals, and lay flat (mostly). The only real idea that I've got is a leather piece with slotted holes over the hand strap that would slide to accomodate my hand, then slide back to lay flat. Any other ideas?

Finger gauntlets are defintely the plan, long term. They're not happening right now though so I need another option

I thought baskets were no longer required as long as your hand is at least 4 inches from the edge.

Ymmv on requirement for shield basket. Ansteorra still requires gauntlet or basket. Some folks use a locking leather shield gauntlet from plans Duke Ulstead got from An Tir.

Correct Corpora no longer requires a basket if the hand is 4" or more from the edge.
