Brits to field a team for BOTN 2013.

For those of us who wish to talk about the many styles and facets of recreating Medieval armed combat.

Brits to field a team for BOTN 2013.

Post by Thorsteinn Raudskeggr »

Looks like some Brits are going to Poland next year:

http://battleofthenations.org/

Battle of the Nations is missing one vital element; a team from the United Kingdom to show the rest of the world just how hard British steel is. Europe’s foremost, full contact medieval tournament currently has no entry from our great nation and it is our aim to rectify this for 2013.

Looks like the French are supplying a team as well. Those will be some good matches to watch.

This is awesome. Australia and New Zealand are working on a joint team. I've heard Belgium is working on one.

You should post that on the Team USA FB page.

Hello all,

If all goes to plan I'll hopefully be amongst the British team and in that light I was wondering if I could ask a favour. Would anyone who has taken part in a previous Battle of the Nations tournament mind adding me on some such instant messenger (Facebook, MSN, Skype) so we can have a wee chat about the event and all it entails?

I would greatly appreciate it.

Edit: If you could PM me details it'd be great. :)

I'd really enjoy attending as a spectator/squire to the US team one of these coming seasons. It certainly seems to be taking off into all kinds of fun! Good luck to the new European teams and their formation.

Gerhard, we had a BIG problem last year with people being able to "Squire". We thought we, as fighters, could take care of each other in that respect...... we were dead wrong. It affected us quite a bit. I think we all have a far greater understanding for the NEED of a Knight to have logistical help. This year the hope is to have more folks to do exactly that.

If you are serious about helping in this very vital task, Join the Support facebook page, as that is where all the coordination for those efforts is occuring. (The link is available on USAKNIGHTS.org)

As a side note, it really was a surprising thing to the majority of us, that "squiring" help was so important. To give you an example, Rocky (Baron Gunther von Stein) started working on armor the MOMENT we got there, and worked on repairs non stop every day from the second we got off the team bus, to the second we left. I am not exagerating one bit. (Even if I have an official license to do it! Isn't that Right, Nissan! wink)

With Respect,
Rob

Yes!!!

Finally get to see some of my countryfolk in this... should be fun to watch the stream with the people around here (I'm living in California right now).

Only downside is, I now have no excuse for not doing this other than not being good enough yet :P

EnglishSteel- I'm not sure if I can say this without sounding condescending, though that's truly not my intent- Steel swords are not light sabers. They are dangerous, and there's always going to be some risk, but if you're properly armoured, this sport isn't completely insane. You've probably been dreaming of fighting all out with real weapons and armour for decades at this point. Just do it.

I'm quite familiar with fighting with steel swords (and bills, partisans, pollaxes, warhammers...), just never in an environment where a mostly hacked off finger is treated as 'not a REAL injury'.
