Pennsic 2013 - Last year I host Novice Tourney

Post by joleicia »

Greetings all,
this is a head's up and call for those interested in running a tourney at Pennsic in the future years to come.

After much thought and contemplation, I've decided that next year (2013) will be the last year I will be hosting the Known World Novice Tourney at Pennsic. It will be it's 10th year running, with my help/hosting for 9 in total.

It was a difficult decision to come by, with advice and thoughts from many. My life has had many changes and evolution since my "keep it running" promise made in 2006. I feel I've given it life, but am also at the point of passing on the torch to let someone else contribute to the fun that is volunteering at Pennsic and encouraging future generations.

On that note, I don't yet have a volunteer to take it over after next year. I'm hoping to have some overlap to show how I've been doing it/what's involved. I'm willing to donate all materials and the box to store it. I will also support and attend any future tourneys when I attend Pennsic and possibly, offering prize donations.

The person doesn't need to have tourney experience, I'm willing to teach all aspects, but I'd hope to find someone with a support system to help them and planned attendance for a few years at Pennsic.

I hope this tourney can continue, even if it evolves beyond it's current state and with others running it. I've got some special plans for this year and next - following the theme of 10 year anniversary and that will pay the proper tribute to the fighters entered and the man who started it all :)
If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it great.

Thank you for hosting this tourney all these years. It was my pleasure to attend the past two years. I can't volunteer since I can not promise to make it every year. (I won't be there this year for example) However that being said, I certainly hope someone who is a regular will step up and take on this great experience.

Just have fun and do right by yourself and others.

I'm happy to state that Lord Danx (House Sutr's Brood) has offered to run the tourney.
He was a friend of Sarnac and has had a member of his household entered in every tourney.
He has heart and enthusiasm...and hopefully some organization. :)
He was out to learn the workings of the tourney and I will show him more next year...and probably both Duchess Rustique and I will be out his first year running it to help him along :)
