In the tradition of ridiculous ebay finds...

They said it might be Viking - for $250 it's a steal...

We've already seen that piece of shite on here. There is NO FLAMING WAY that is authentic. The only one doing the stealing is the seller.

Actually, if you look at the rest of his auctions, he seems to be a collector of things that appear to be old. Whether this is his actual business or just a hobby, I don't know. He has some cool looking things.

David, the seller never makes any claim that the helmet is authentic - he says its unique, which it is. Reading his description, I think even HE'S unsure of its origin.

He doesn't "claim" anything because he knows he will be reamed in court. It looks like a random eastern european military helmet with some bits brazed on it.

True, that IS an ugly beast, but i think it MAY be quasi-authentic, i found a store on robson street in good ol vancouver, they have one just like that, going for a good swack of cash as well, anywyas, it said something about being a cerimonial helm from india or some shite...
but yea, almost identical.

they did however have some nice bucklers there.

anyways..

I like that helm!

But no - it is not authentic anything.

The Indian helmets have a totally different Bowl.
Also -- the horns are steel not cow-horn.
And -BTW - "ceremnoial" should be changed to "tourist trinket".

Another thing is,it could also be an opera helm or at least something dealing with the theatrical trade.just my thoughts on the subject.

No, they had one almost identical that they were ASKING for a good swack of cash for. I can dry my own turds and put a price tag on them of $1000 each. That doesn't mean they're GOING for that much. Image

Those little knights suits of armour... I saw a guy at Estrella selling them for $250. I had an offer from Warrior's Mark to get me one for $175. (He then quit emailing me back, anyone heard from him?) But I saw one on Ebay for $2000 and the 1800miniature.com site had them priced at $3500. Identical things.

I've seen a couple of helmets like that before ... I believe they were made in the late 1800's / early 1900's in the Cameroon area. I have no idea as to their original purpose, but figure either tourist trade or some despot wanting a really silly looking presidential guard unit.
