Recently, I've received several emails asking for suggestions on how to keep a crossguard from spinning on rattan. My advice was only minor help since I don't have that problem: I carve my personal weapons from thicker rattan and use crossguards with oval or other non-round mounting holes whenever possible.
However, I am perfectly aware that I am in the minority. For those people trying to place a mass produced crossguard with a round hole on a 1.25" stick of rattan, how do you keep in in place?
