Why such a heavy material?
I would have said - because I want a reasonable result. Things get thinner when you dish, smooth and grind. I think I started even thicker on the proto-ones I have played with recently. But I have been playing with some moving of metal around to have it where I want it.

Hehe, Wade the good part is we both just told the truth :0). I didnt think Id have to explain to Bender about the basics of shaping metal either. (I know you knew this Bender im just explaining).
@ Bender, Truth is I dont make anything out of stainless OR Spring, So making something out of 18g or thinner reminds me of this armor......Here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjfkYWz6l5E
All said in fun guys! Thanks to Knotwolf for the link.
Have a good weekend

^ The beginning of that video reminds me of a practice me and some SCA buddies had in a local park. Some punk teens yelled out of their car, "Fuck you Gimli!" Then sped off like no tomorrow. Mind you, none of use looked like Gimli and only one guy was using a great axe.

Re: Chamfron
Got a little more work done on it, I cant decide if I should put this round emblem on the forehead or a plume holder, Ill ask the buyer before I proceed, I like the shape I got out of this thing so far, good curves, like a woman. Final pics should be next if all goes well.

Re: Chamfron
I hope h says plumes. Otherwise that looks a bit too much like a nipple! Pit bull when you get a chance can you give me some basic costs for a chamfron and or crinet?

Re: Chamfron
I've made several chamfrons/crinets in the past-some quite elaborate-stainless and pierced brass-even pierced eyecovers. But none of them expected anyone to be hitting the horse.
So there was no need to make them "whack-a-knight rhino style."

Re: Chamfron
Hehe. I hear ya Bender, Its just like skinning cats though.
Ok final pics of the chamfron, This one was welded up instead of hinged, and in the future I will get more depth in the center of the snout.
Sorry Dougal the client wanted the emblem instead of plumes on her war horse.
Have a good week guys
