An Tir Armourers Guild workshop - Feb 23/2013
Hi Folks
There is an An Tir Armourers Guild workshop happening on the 23rd in Burnaby (a suburb of Vancouver BC) 3014 Ares Place, Burnaby BC - PM me if you're interested and I can provide directions and give a heads up for the organizers. I'll probably be bringing part of my library (the Knight and the Blast furnace should be coming back to me, since Bill / Wilhelm is coming up)
I will be teaching hinge construction, and should have the 1560 Ausberg gorget pieces on hand. Brad Gouge will be teaching chasing (probably on hinges constructed earlier in the day). If you want to make hinges, let me know if you'd prefer brass or stainless, and whether you want a 4-lobe (general purpose) hinge pattern or a 3-lobe (gauntlet thumb) pattern so that I'll have time to do the setup. If you're crazy and want to try an ausberg gorget ring I'll see about bringing the gear for that (including a bead jenny) but be warned that this is a *very* involved (and persnickety) project.
The fee is $15 for the day to cover costs, Tea and coffee provided, bring something for the potluck at lunch.
Doors open at 8:30, the last one finished up around ~6:00.

Well damn. I have the weekend off and got excited that I could maybe head up with Wilhelm. Then I realized no passport, no crossing.

I'm pretty sure that you can get into Canada, they just won't let you back into the US...

Yeah you need a passport or "enhanced" drivers license to get back into the US.

No Idea if Wilhelm still does the SCA thing or not. I haven't done an SCA event in years (lirerally) but Bill , Ilkka (Sir Geoffrey de Rennes) and I still bang on metal for fun...

Missed that this was happening. Dang.
Saw your old kit at Academie Duello last week and thought, I haven't seen him since Erin and Jeremy's wedding!

It was a lot of fun... We're going to be trying to do a quarterly workshop, and are rewriting chunks of the charter to "raise the bar" for Journeymen and Master candidates - the old rules technically allowed a "journeyman" who had built a suit of smurf armour as their only work.
I'll be starting another thread to discuss...

Re: An Tir Armourers Guild workshop - Feb 23/2013
Greetings Brothers & Sisters,
I would like to announce that I am formally taking Riese von Landsee as my newest apprentice. He will have full access to what I know and learn, and I will assist his advancement to Master Armourer in any way I am able.
I will also help him obtain his passport so that he might travel freely in the North, working with and learning from the great armourers of Lions Gate and its environs.
Should there be any man or woman, of good character and consumed by a passion to bend steel to will, who wishes to interview for Apprenticeship, please contact me. Membership in the SCA is not a requirement. Living within driving range of Snohomish will help.
Please note that I am a Sustaining Member of the SCA and a loyal Sergeant of the Barony of Lions Gate (which I consider my true home). I operate my Fabrica full time, and choose to take no part in local SCA branch activities. Guild Mobil Training Team visits are still available to the branches of AnTr.
I am also an active participant in Legio VI Cohors II. Anyone interested in Roman re-enactment, Roman armour & weapons, and camp gear, contact me.
There is some interest in Regio Angolorum, a British pre-Norman re-enactment society. They are strictly period correct and fight with rebated steel. Again, anyone interested in forming a chapter & having some serious fun , contact me. Check out their website.
In mid-September, we will have the Snohomish Pumpkin Hurl and Medieval Village. I am looking for folk to participate in the village. We had 3000 paid guest last Sept.
As Sir Gerhard said, "Have fun!" Let the arrogant & overblown enjoy each other's company.
yours in Service,
Wilhelm
