Cian more moved sale

Post by Cian of Storvik »

I'm starting a new list of items I'm selling now that I've moved. There is only about a $120 short fall in my moving expenses, so I'm not heart broken if you don't like any of my stuff. I love my stuff (Though in a platonic way...You won't need to have any of this stuff cleaned like a Lewinsky dress.)

But, to thin out pieces from my collection, so that others might enjoy them. I offer up the following pieces. But please note how I'm offering these:

-This is a "Helter Skelter" auction. If someone makes a Charles Manson crazy offer on something, (or even what I consider very fair), I may end the auction right then and there. If it peters out (e.g. no other offers in the past 24 hours, I will probably end it right then and there. In either instance, I will mark the item as SOLD, and notify that generous individual that made the bid.
-The items have NO HIDDEN RESERVE. I will take what I have started the item at if no one else bids. E.g. If I offer up something for $15, and you offer $15 and no one else seems interested. Bingo! Yours for $15.
-Make me an offer. If you think I'm asking too much, or think for the price it should include shipping, send me a PM as to why you think so, and the worst I can say is NO deal.
-FINAL VALUE DOES NOT INCLUDE SHIPPING. If you don't want to guestimate shipping, PM Me your zip code and what you'd like to bid on. (This obviously is irrelevant if we've made a PM offer where I've aggreed to include shipping).
-I can accept Paypal, postal Money orders, and if I like you I'll take a personal check. I pay the paypal fees as it is worth the convenience. I won't ship until payment is received.
-Another note about shipping; If I say shipping is going to be $25, and it turns out the Postal calculator was worng and it's only $14, I'll refund the difference. If it says it's going to be $25, and it's actually $24.30, suck it up. I'm keeping the extra $0.70. I'm not making out a $0.70 check.
-I live in Laurel, Maryland. If you want to drive by and pick up items to save shipping time/$ and/or pay in cash, I have no problem with that.

So without further ado...
1) An unfinished greathelm kit (Made by James Arlen Gilespie). This kit is fantastic. But I managed to pick-up a finished piece for a good price and since I cannot use my tools in the new apartment it must go to someone else to finish. This helm comes with about $22 in thumscrews and wing nuts, that I used for dry assembly. It also includes a bag of steel rivets to finish the assembly yourself.
You will need either the skill to finish this or have access to someone who will help you finish it. The helm top needs to be finished by folding over the top edges of all of the sides. And holes drilled/punched for the top to be mounted. This will require heating and much hammering (something You can't do in an apartment).
You will also need to peen about 40 rivets, and a long nosed internal rivet hammer will help with this. You may also need a piece of 12 or 14 ga steel to make the top with. I THINK I still have the piece I cut out for this, but I'll have to find it in my storage unit (This piece, flat 14 ga steel which needs to be trimmed to fit, HAS been found and is included with the kit).
Currently it has a satin finish and is nice and clean. and it really wants someone to take it home and finish working on it.

Circumference at bottom: 30"
Side to side at bottom: 8.25"
Front to back at bottom: 10.5"
Height at front: 13" (will shorten when top edge is folded over when done):
Weight: 8 lbs. (without the lid)
Gauge: 14
Starting bid: $80.
Current bid: $90
*SOLD*

#2) Velvet cotehardie by ICE FALCON. I picked this up used off of ebay about a year and a half ago. I have to say this is a very sweet jacket. I've only worn it once just to check the fit out in a mirror. I never realized Ice made clothes, but he did a great job with these items. It's a very rich red velvet. And though the shape is made with small panel construction, and not historical, it's easily forgiven because of the attracive shape.
The model here (Manny the Mannequin) is standing about 6'2" and if he weren't fiberglass he'd weigh about 175-180. He has a 39" chest and 32" waist. But as you can see, it's a bit baggy on him, though it still looks nice! The cote fits me at 6'2", 220 and 42" chest, 38" belly and 36" waist. I wear a 42 jacket.
The sleeves are a bit long. They come down to the knuckles on both Manny and myself. The skirt is also long landing about 3" above the knee, which I think is actually very attractive. I think I replaced all the buttons on this. There are 23 brass colored buttons down the front and 8 on each sleeve (the sleeve buttons are decorative only). The color is a military or Naru (sp?) style, but once again, very attractive. A great item for court.
I should also note that whomever had it before me evidently either never wore it, OR they wore it so gingerly as to not get anything on it.
This auction is only for the cotehardie; hat, liripipe hood, belt, garters, dagger, pouch, costrel, and Manny are not included.

Color: Red
Size: Large
Material: Plush Velvet with polyester satin lining.
Starting Bid: $175
Current Bid: None

#3) *SOLD*.A Get Dressed for Battle, 15" buckler. Has a burgandy-brown colored leather covering with an escalloped boss. This thing is chunky. I'm guessing 14 ga. mild steel. It weighs about 5 lbs. And the edge is a very thick roll.
The surface is a bit marred from use at a demo vs. an SCA knight. These retail (ed?) for $75. It really wants to be used and abused.

Diameter over-all: 15"
Internal diameter of boss: 5"
Boss depth: 2"
Weight: 7 lbs.
Starting bid: $50

Current bid: *SOLD*

#4) Black Swan parti colored red/blue linen cotehardie. What can I say about HE/Black Swan that you don't already know? The hems and seems on this piece were done exquisitly. It was made for a living history person, who rejected it due to the color being "off", but I picked it up at a big discount (these were selling for $225 a few years ago). The buttons are wooden beads (red and blue) and as you can see, the piece fits Manny perfectly in the shoulders and in sleeve length. It's a bit large in the torso for him, though. Fits my 220, 6'2" (42 jacket size) frame very well. As you can see, the skirt falls mid-thigh perfectly on Manny. I used to get many compliments on this when I wore it.
It's marked a Black Swan medium, but it's really a large. I had a BS medium wool cotehardie that I grew out of and it was obviously smaller than this.
If you do later 14th century and don't own a linen cotehardie, this is your chance. I only wore this a few times, and it's in great condition. No tears or missing buttons. No sweat stains. etc... It was dry cleaned after the last time I wore it. It needs ironing. But if I fold it for shipping, you will have to iron it anyhow (despite the sheer joy of wearing it, linen gets wrinkled).

Color: Blue & red (shell), oatmeal interior
Material: Linen
Size: M (really a Large)
Maker: Black Swan Designs
Starting Bid: $150
Current Bid: $160
*SOLD*

#5) Sir Angus Dragon Head helmet crest. This is a helmet crest I purchased off of another archive member. I like the looks of it, but my heraldry and kingdom have no connection to dragonlyness. This design was made by Sir Angus for behourd combat (to be knocked off?) from a dense foam. It truely is a crowning piece for a jousting or great helm.
The only alteration I made to it, was carving out a convex shape to the bottom so it would fit a Pembridge style greathelm. It still should be glued to a leather mounting and that leather mounting then pointed or tied to the helm.

Height: 8.5"
Base dimension: 4" x 5"
Color: Gold
Starting bid: $50
Current bid: None

#6) Willy Trambone Belt pouch. early 15th century style vaguely similar to that in a famous Triptych (that I'm drawing a blank on). It measures 9" x 9" overall. It has 3 inside draw string pouches with cords, a large interior pouch, and a linen lined pouch under the flap. The hardware (weights and buckle) are nickle plated bronze.
I'm only getting rid of this because I commisioned an earlier pouch from Willy which will probably be done in another few weeks.
My appologies for the pics. For some reason the camera keeps going out of focus whenever I try to take a photo of this pouch. must be some reflection or the blackness of it. I line it up perfectly, hit the button and it changes focus, then the shutter snaps. The photos are an injustice to this piece. It retailed for $115, and was $20 to ship from he Ukraine. You can have it without the wait for manufacture or shipping, or biting your nails to see if customs holds on to it for an extra month for less than I paid for it.

Size: 9" wide x 9" tall
Material: Leather, linen & bronze
Color: Black exterior, tan pouchlets, oatmeal linen. Nickel plated bronze hardware
Maker: Willy Trambone
Starting bid: $80
Current Bid: $99
*SOLD*

#7) An SCA combat crossbow & Bolts. I believe this was a Hightower crossbow. If anyone recognizes it and I am wrong, please correct me. The tiller (body) appears to be a heavy wood (possibly stained oak, ash, or a walnut). The prod is aluminum and bound in place with nylon cord. The keeper is solid brass. The release type is "lifting pin". It's the lighter weight model designed for use in either heavy combat (using shafted bolts) or rapier NOT the 1000# type only usable with tubular ammo.

High Points: It will shoot either APD fiberglass shafted OR gleanable tubular bolts. The tickler (trigger) has spring-return so it doesn't flop around like some models. This also reduces premature eradication some of you men have experienced (accidental release of your bolts). Despite its size it weighs only about 6 lbs due to the aluminum prod and nylon bindings.
Also comes with about 30 UHMW bolts and a bag to carry them in. So, you can take it straight from the box and start shooting people in the face!

Now for the Low points: It's BIG and will require a serious parcel for shipping. It really prefer this be picked-up locally if possible. Or I might be able to arrange a hand-off by friends at an event. Other low point is I will cry if someone buys this, although I don't use it anymore, I love shooting this stupid thing. The anticipatory strain of drawing back the string to notch, loading a bolt. And the ever so satisfying ploink of firing the tickler and shooting someone straight in their grill and watching them snap their spear over their knee as they storm off the field. The Spear Gods will tremble before you!!! (required legal notice: Not so much. They are more likey to wait for you in the parking lot if you repeatedly shoot them).

Draw Weight: <600# pull by SCA reckoning for shafted or tubular bolts. I was told by one marshal this is right up there at the 600# mark though. I don't know the exact pull weight at notch as I don't have a spring gauge.
Length (tiller+stirrup): 35"
Breadth (prod): 34"
Draw span: 8.5"
Weight(mass of unit): 6 lbs.
UHMW bolts included: ~30
Starting bid: $300
Current bid: $300
*SOLD*

I think this is the last item for today.

Newer items....
#8) Soulpad 3000 9ft 8" diameter canvas tent. Excellent for weekend event (1-3 night camping). I was going to use this for storage or overnighting myself when I wanted to take the car, but I switched to an SUV last year and haven't needed to use it. This is lightly used tent in a sibley style. You can roll-up the short side-walls for through air-flow on really hot days. Yet it has a zipper attached groundcloth for excellent water resistance.
the most convenient thing is that it only weighs about 35 lbs including stakes and lines and will fit in most sub compacts (~40" long x 12" diameter storage bag). Comes with everything you need (break-down poles) all in one package. PM me for shipping estimate or if you'd like to arrange pick-up. Retail price on this is $480+ship.

Starting bid: $300 (5/8 retail price).
Current bid: $0

#9)A dagged hood from Historic enterprises. Ivory. As shown in the photos above with the red cotehardie. These sell for $44.95 from HE. This one was worn 1 time, maybe twice. It's been cleaned. Nice color to coordinate with almost any foundation garment. I'll let you have it for $35 + shipping (probably around $8 to most locations). Not a bid-on item. First person to pay gets it.) **SOLD**

#10) A dagged hood from Historic Enterrprises. Burgundy. Just like the Ivory one shown above, but it's well, burgandy colored. Once again, these sell for $44.95 from HE. This one has never been worn. Still in it's plastic from HE. Yours for $37+ shipping. (Not a bid-on item. First person to pay gets it.)

#11)A wool hooded cloak from GDFB. Nice heavy cloak. I bought this thinking it would be good for Pennsic mornings, but since I may never do another Pennsic, it will probably never be used. It has pewter clasps added at the throat for fastening. Retails for $80+ship. The clasps alone retail for $30. $110 value. You can have it for $55+ship.**SOLD**

I've got a higher bid from a local AA user on the Buckler. I'm giving them first right of refusal, if they want to take it. Still awaiting confirmation, but I consider their offer a fair price (esp. since I don't lose Paypal fees, or have to find a box to ship it in). I'll let you know by tomorrow evening If they change their mind.
But the buckler is tenatively sold.

I did find the "top". It's just a oblong piece of 14 ga steel. It will need to be trimmed to the final shape, as it's a bit too large now.
I was going to dish it slightly and put a center crease on it. But, I don't have access to a dishing stump any longer.

No worries on that, I can handle the shaping and trimming, just didn't want to have to hunt for steel. Thanks. I'm in for the $90.

I'll be ending one or two of these this evening, if we have no more bids.
Looks like there is no love for the velvet cotehardie or the helmet crest. Which is actually okay. I really like both of these items and I'd be a bit sad to see them go.

Thanks to everyone so far who have either bid or bought items so far. God bless you.
And I should have a few more items by this weekend.

If there are no more bids on the Pouch, it will be ending shortly. I should also notate that the last few bids, despite being in $1-$2 incriments are getting toward the "I'm happy with that. So it's yours" range. So if someone wants to dig deep in the couch cushions, you can end this here and now.
