ebay helm?

Post by Uilliam Le Syngur Ingelrie »

So what's up with this helm? Does anybody recognize the maker?

I was really digging it at 50 bucks or so....was thinking would be cool to make a fencing face for this.
I was thinking Iron monger???

I think I remember the Ren Store (or something similar in name) selling these maybe 10 years ago.

I don't remember RenStore ever selling something list-legal. Looks like the leather strapping has been redone recently (well, recently considering the rust).

Wonder where it comes from - seller is in AZ, but the rust implies somewhere else.

looks decent, once cleaned up

Looked like an ashcraft baker "Sallet" to me

Ashcraft baker's idea of a sallet (always looked more like a lobster pot to me). Looks like someone's bid it it up to $100 currently. With all of the rust, we could debate the worth of the starting $50+$16 shipping.
I wouldn't spend $100 on that, personally. Better off saving up another $100 to $250 and getting a decent helm.

When I see things on ebay like this, I compare it to a friend that has a an old car he wants to sell you because you need wheels. It barely runs, looks like crap, but he only wants $500. Looking around you for sale signs on cars on people's lawns which have passed inspection, recently new tires or tune-up, and won't make you want to sink down in the seat out of embarassement when people see you in it. Price $900 to $1000.

The one your friend wants to sell you probably needs at least an additional $600 in repair work just to make it get through inspection. Which do you get? Unless you've just got your heart set on the model/make your friend is selling, you'd be making a poor investment by buying it.

Ashcraft sells these new for $125 for the 14 ga dome. (I won't go into the reputation of said armourer, since I don't have first-hand knowledge)

It's already overpriced on Ebay.

Yes my first thought was AB, and yes they have a shifty reputation atm . I have seen some iron monger similar but no lob tail. Thanks for the clarification. Like I said at 50 bucks, I have a small sandblaster and I could buff it back close to life then maybe blacken it but dang...then someone went bid crazy. Happens in real estate all the time. By the time you add what it takes to put lipstick on the pig its out of range...

That is definitely an ashcraft baker helm. The only upside to buying it is that you will get it without having to call Kelly 30 times and him yelling at you. You can polish a turd but it is still a turd.
