boots for a varangian guard

Post by tim_Belcher »

10th century rus viking working as a varangian guard. anyone have any leads on documentable boots(preferably calf height or so)
A gerbil on PCP is of tactical advantage if you know how to use it right.
This is my piece of list field and you can have it when you pry it from my cold dead hands(facebook, Lori Caelwaerts sca heavy combat list)

oof I'd have to do some digging for proof but i know from research ive done for essays and classes and shit that generally vikings wore more of a just above the ankle boot. then if they had leg protection if any it would be splinted greaves. If they were say part of the vargangian guard then theyd most likely have a cloth or leather shoe much like the vikings with a splint riveted lower leg protection itd be riveted on cuir bouilli leather.

Closest I found was the "Baltic Boot" that Bohemond sells. Not 100% documentable, but pretty close.

There are some boot finds from the 10th century none are quite so tall as the fictional sea boots. Here is a historic boot from Hedeby in the 10th c:

Here is a chart with 8-10c finds, as I recall all the tall boots are 10th c
