I just wanted to share some pictures of the first helmet I have made (about a year ago). It is based on the Spangenhelm from Batajnica.
The pattern I used as a starting point is from here:

The nasal and spectacle are my own design. It is all made from 14 Gauge mild steel.
The helmet just before final riveting.
Unfortunately the surface coating I used removed the blue shine and left it looking like copper.
As you can see this is not an SCA helmet but for blunt steel reenactment.

The blueing was done by tempering at 270C for 40 minutes
The golden was done by tempering at 230C for 40 minutes
I have a scientific grade oven at work that operates with 0.1C precision.
