Oxy propane questions
I've decided I'm finally getting torches. Should be much better than the charcoal forge. So my questions are what are you guys using. I've got a price for oxygen and the bottle. Looking for good deals on torches. What top do you guys use? The guys at the welding supply place said I can just use am Oct aecetylene setup with propane but what pressures do I run at? Any other typos and advice are welcome too.

Re: Oxy propane questions
I've been fairly happy with oxy acetylene for hot work, though oxy propane may be cheaper to run and a little less likely to melt things by accident. I use the biggest tip I have to warm a large area.

Re: Oxy propane questions
Harris and smith make good quality torches and regulators.
Depending on your budget and how much torch work you do.
I would lease the o2 tanks and look at Craig's list and such of o2 concentrators if they will put out enough pressure to run the torch.
For bar work a reil burner may work a little better.

Re: Oxy propane questions
5 years ago when I bought a oxy-propane set, I called atlweldingsupply.com [a referral from my brother] and asked what to get. They sold me a Harris style body, mixer, and rosebud, grade T hoses [important, don't use R], and gages all meant for propane. I also got a cutting torch for propane that I've only used once.
Locally I pay ~$18 each for a 92cuft bottle of oxygen or a 20# propane swap. This has been more cost effective than acetelyne. I like it.
Edit: I forgot to add, I'd definitely buy from them again.

Re: Oxy propane questions
I ran Oxy Propyleye for years and loved it, the rosebuds are slightly different as far as hole size and possibly internal bits (not real sure) but you will want the propane head for the torch, I also got a tip for cutting with my regular torch. Whenver I ran out of propylene I just grabbed a propane tank and used that till I get get the swap out. I didn't worry about what the actual regulator setting were, just turned it up till the torch had the right sound and look. Oh, and the propylene/ propane tips don't work well with aceytlene, they will overheat and start backfiring (at least that what happened when someone tried to use mine on an acetylene rig a year ago)
