Hjalmarhiem Armoury -back from the dead!
Hjalmarhiem Armoury -back from the dead!
Greetings. Been a really F'ed up year or so but I am back to making armor. I am still trying to get the kinks out and catch up on a few back orders, but I hope to be all free and clear soon. I am also out of stainless steel and it will probably take me a awhile to get up the cash to buy another sheet. So until then, I am going to make mild steel stock helmets and non-helmet items (gorgets, gauntlets, etc). As soon as I get $300 for stainless -I'll get back on this list. From now on I will only take one commission at a time. It took 20 years to happen, but taking so many orders and payment up front finally caught up to me and it was a disaster! I learned my lesson. I looked up my last update and it seems that my current status is:
1) John Welch (14g SS Russian Helmet) - 0% Fiinished.
2) Rex Meyer (14g SS Kettlehelm) - 0% Fiinished.
3) Jim Nesbitt (14g SS Skullcap) - 0% finished.
Everyone elses order was finished and shipped months ago during my scramble to remain above water...
If your not on the list and should be -please contact me.

Delighted to see you return! What alloy of as do you typically use? Have you ever worked in 304 or 301?

Any chance of you getting 12g stainless (or mild I suppose)? I ordered an ACL helmet in 12 mild and when it eventually gets destroyed, I'd thought about pulling the visor off it and moving it to a new helm. Just a thought.

Re: Hjalmarhiem Armoury -back from the dead!
how much would a sheet of 12ga stainless cost you? I believe that some of the ACL guys and my self would be intrested in buying helmets in that guage. I would really like a kettle helm in the 12ga stainless. Let me know and I will see if I can get some guys to buy helmets. Also unlike SCA fighting ACL helmets need replacing every once and a while. Steady work,
Edward

Or for that matter, 4130 is quit cheap and welds easily with a good stick welder and the right rods (or TIG, I think) and then just let the buyers worry about heat treating. Of course they wouldn't need replacing as often.

I will ask tomorrow. my last sheet of 14g was a tad over $300 (4 x 10).
