Drinking horns

I've acquired some horns, and would like to put some metal trim on the tips and a band at the mouth. The tips are easy, I've got plenty of experience with casting, and have access to a metals workshop. My question is about the band, and connecting it. Google images seems to show a few where there is metal on the inside of the horn, but I'm pretty sure I see others where the metal is just riveted (or maybe glued?) to the top.

Does anybody have any experience with a project like this and/or advice to share?

There are a coupla ways to approach this.

1. Metal rim only on the outside - probably the easiest solution. I use 1mm brass/bronze for rim and any 'straps' if I use them. Grab a few punches and make a good bit of viking goodness. Like this one:

2. Add a rim to the top edge of the horn. Silver solder a half round to the rim like you had in #1

3. Completely enclosed. Inner and outer rim silver soldered to a half round.

Tips:
When making the outside rim, use masking tape on the horn to get an accurate pattern. Few horns will have straight lines for the top.

Pine rosin or 'pitch' can be used to fill any gaps between rims and the horn.

For the love of god, polish your punch faces unlike the ones in that image. Oh, the file marks.

...and it should develop and hold a patina faster and better in the low punched areas than if those places were more polished, which will add more contrast to the design.
