recommendation wanted--beeswax source
Are there any beekeepers on the archive? Alternatively, what source do you use for beeswax sold by the pound? Thanks.

If you have a Michaels craft store, you can occasionally get the 50% off 1 single item coupon, and buy it there. They usually have clear/white and natural. The natural (yellowish tint) still has the smell of honey to it. Unless someone is gathering it locally, you probably won't find it much cheaper than that.
I think I actually threw away about 2 pounds of the natural stuff still in the wrapper a few months back when I moved because I figured I'd hadn't used it in several years and probably never would.

The more you buy, the less it costs. I bought 10 pounds on Friday. I spent roughly $6.60 a pound, versus $15 a pound at Hobby Lobby.

Ask your local brewers.
There are more local small scale apiaries all the time that will barter.
The other option is to organize a bulk order or talk with a local candle shop.
Ordering a hundred pounds gets you a better price.

watch for some of the decent sales they have... and by being able to buy in bulk, they sell 55 lb bags for about $260-ish (making it less than $5/lb)

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Hospitaller@Acre, I'm going to compare prices for a day or two, but keep an eye on your PM's. If your price is about the same as what I can get at a big chain, I'd rather support a small business.

I think "used to be" seems to be the key element there. They are made of a heavy petroleum distilate with other "stuff" to make it sticky.
Some target shooting people those rings in a 50/50 mix with parrafin for ammo lube. Similar color, but no actual bees wax in the ones made in the past 20+ years.

Good to know. Shame, because they're pretty cheap, pretty big, and WOULD have been a good source.Cian of Storvik wrote:I think "used to be" seems to be the key element there. They are made of a heavy petroleum distilate with other "stuff" to make it sticky.
