wow, I have just found a helm I should put on ebay soon, if I add a bargrill some padding and a slatback it could be sca legal.
it has a huge nasal so maybe I can find a suitably big nosed buyer for this ;)

it is about 9 1/2" diameter and 6" deep

what do you think?

Wasn't that intended for melting white-metal in anyway?

the wooden handle it had in the past may have been a bit close to the heat for that KtR, have seen these before, it is steel, dished and welded and looks galvanized.
the dish is heavy, at least 14 gauge, the half round pieces are 5/8 to 3/4 wide and about half that in thickness, the socket for the handle goes up to 1 1/2" diameter.

so you dont think I should put it on ebay as an authentic dark age helm then starting at $2000

I'd be too darn busy trying to divine just what a dipper so made is for. But :| , folks. Scooping oats for the horsies eighty-maybe-a-hundred years ago on the farm? Looks intended to make sure the handle stays on and doesn't bend no matter how heavy a scoopful of whatever is.

Picking up great piles of lug-nuts?

It kind of reminds me of a spoon shovel. With a long pole for a handle maybe it could have been used for scooping water and mud out of holes in the ground.

Protect your head and your witch-like nose and still be able to entertain guests with a large stew ladle maybe?

OTOH:

It may be the infamous Norfolk Dike Dish. (Minus its long pole) Such a big deal for these guys trying to make it through shooting the segment that it might as well be capitalized. Apparently used for canal maintenance. One of the guys is Jethro Somebodyorother. Jim Davidson, too?

And he sacrificed it at ninety-six dollars.
