Who you there has experience with this company and their products? I'm thinking about getting one but would like to hear what people have to say about them.
For that matter, I have no experience with yurts in general. What kind of experience to folks have with them from any makers? Sturdy? Easy to set up? Roomy, comfortable? Better than comproable sized tents? Not as good as comprable sized tents?
Inquiring Me wants to know!
Thanks all!

I don't own one, but know people that do (not by Tamerlane).
Time to set up: Longer than a tent, there is a lot more hardware.
Sturdy: Properly set up they're probably good for 70-80mph wind.
Roomy: One center pole.

I don't know anything about the company referenced but I sleep in a yurt at Pennsic and have for many years. Unless your yurt is very large, no center poles. It's an advantage of the design. Very weather resistant, easy to set up, comfortable living space and climate. Not so easy to hump around and store. Compared to western style tents with comparable square footage, the hardware is bulkier and heavier. If you have an easy means of storage and transport, they're great.

I used one for years (still have it) and loved it for long events (Gulf Wars, Pennsic, etc.) when I was non-single. Takes an hour or more to put up, very sturdy, and tons of room.
Went to a wall tent once I was "single" and didn't need that much hassle.

Yurts in general - a bit more planning goes into a Yurt and setting up the camp.
Here is what I do:
* Pick your spot and lay out the ground cloth. My ground cloth is slightly larger than the footprint of the yurt itself, and where the khana goes is marked.
* set up the pole that hoists the smoke ring up and get the smoke ring hoisted.
* lay out the carpeting, set up the folding ladder and then make a pile of all the stuff that goes inside the yurt around the smoke ring pole.
* Set up the khana and doors
* Get a helper and climb the ladder. Get a helper to hand you roof struts and get them placed. Being on the ladder up at the smoke ring helps the roof strut placement go MUCH easier.
* Once all roof struts are in place, use helpers to get the cover(s) on. - My cover is a giant one-piece affair.
* Use the hoisting pole as your closet to hang garb and start getting settled in with all your stuff already inside the yurt.
Using this, I was able to get to the point of putting the cover on alone in an hour - including offloading the trailer.

Re: Tamerlane Yurts? Yurts in general?
I only really remember Sir Theatyn's yurt that he used to set up down at Lake Tobesofkee. The thing had latticework walls, roof beams, and of course the cover. As I recall he had a flat bed trailer that was dedicated nearly 100% just to the yurt. Too much work and transport for my tastes.

Re: Tamerlane Yurts? Yurts in general?
I built my own 16' diameter yurt and I love it. It's a little bit more to haul than a marquee tent because of the lattice and door. I can set my yurt up by myself faster than my buddy can set his panther regent up with a person helping him. I could haul my yurt in my 2002 Durango without using a trailer if I had to.
