WTB: reproduction Order of the Golden Fleece Collar

Post by Tom B. »

Does anyone know a source for a good reproduction of a late 15th century Order of the Golden Fleece Collar?
An internet search comes up with a few sources but no good images of their work.

Here are some images of an extant one in Vienna at the Schatzkammer:

Check out Anton and Ludmilla Casting out of Ukraine. It's a great price for beautiful work.

Gaston,

You wouldn't happen to have a link or complete business name.
I think I have seen them on Facebook but can't find them now.

I was hoping to find something in stock so to speak.
I know of several people who could make one, my knight included.

I was going to suggest you get someone to do rapid prototype in abs (using a makerbot), and just pewter cast it yourself from a silicone mold.

But Armour and Castings does great work (IMO).

I have ordered the one from Armour and Castings and will post a review once I have it in hand.
The pictures look pretty good.
There are a few details that aren't quite as I would like but the price and availability seem to be unbeatable.

I received my collar from Armour and Castings today.

They get a mixed review from me but over all I think the item was well worth the money.
1. Communication 3.0- A few good e-mail exchanges up front then nothing until I got a ship notice.
No estimated ship date and no response to emails after order.
2. Value 4.0 - No others I found were even close in price and they even added a couple of extra links, per my request, at no charge.

3. Quality 3.0 - castings are not a clean as I had hoped and the enamel (if that even is what is is) is really bad.

Tom,

Thanks for the review.
Is this their "standard" finish, or did you add the gold plating option?
How many links did you have them add to get that length.

Thank you,
Todd

They added two links so the total matched the original I posted at the beginning of the thread.
I am not sure but I think that the scale of their links (and the entire collar) is a bit big.
I asked and paid for the standard unplated finish but it looks like I may have gotten a plated version.
The plating seems a bit uneven in spots, maybe due to the unevenness of the underlying casting in places.

Thanks Tom.
Do you happen to know, roughly, the measurements on your collar?
I haven't been able to find those of the original, but maybe I'll be able to track them down later.

Thank you,
Todd

Good review. Looks like pretty good casting work. Not so good enameling work.

Thanks for the link.
I think I found them A few years ago, but couldn't find a picture of their collar.
Also they did not respond to email.
