Wooden shield blanks

Post by Ramsay318 »

I was cleaning out my garage and found a small stockpile of materials from my attempt to set up a shield-making business. So, I am taking orders for custom sized center-grip shields up to 30" wide. Here's a rundown of what I've got to work with.

Body: I have enough 1/2" birch plywood for a few shields. For the handles, I like to use red oak and give it a clear coat, but I can take requests for material and paint/stain.

Painting: I have black, white, red, yellow, and sky blue paints on hand. I also have a dark espresso stain that works really well on the plywood.

Cloth: I have white canvas for the front and grey felt for the back. Either of these can be replaced with the aforementioned paints or espresso stain.

Edging: Rawhide is standard, but I can also put in a rope underlayment to reinforce the edge.

Boss: I don't have any bosses, but I can order them in and put them on just for the cost of purchase and shipping (usually $25 to $30).

Shipping costs usually run between $30 and $50, depending on shield size and distance.

Since this stuff is pretty much left over, my prices will be a lot lower than in the past. Basically, you'd be paying for the time it would take to make them, plus shipping. So, if you need a good, strong wooden shield for a steal of a price, let me know.

How much for just unfinished shield, boss and handle?

Do you only have round shields?

Depends on the details as far as size and shape. I can do other shapes, but only flat shields, since the 1/2" plywood for it is all I've got.
