Sir Richard Pembridge Effigy Pix

Post by Konstantin the Red »

Sir Richard Pembridge was an Anglo-Saxon, bullet-headed, Herefordshire mother's son and his harness begins here with his kneecops. 3-pc, I think. 5-pc elbows. Interestingly, what appear to be cuirbouilli cuisses if the lacing down the inside means that -- or they are cuirbouilli underlying a steel cuisse on the front of the thigh. Curious system for c. 1375 -- no hinges laterally, though. Click right-arrow for more.

Note the subtle 3-D shaping of his spaudleroid articulations further along, and how the rerebrace swells out to meet them. Either Sir Richard had big ol' delts or his armourer wanted him to look like he did.
