Steel Mastery Gambesons?

Post by GardenGnome »

Has anyone ordered from Steel Mastery before?

I am looking to maybe order one of their custom gambesons. I am a bit gun shy due to they require a Paypal intermediary and their website isn't a secure on for online purchases.. (ie.. not https://..).

I paid with credit card a couple of years ago via direct contact. The gambeson they made for me (custom) is a tank, almost too much for many activities - 4 layers of fibers. It is heavier than you might expect but it absorbs blows better than some armor I have worn and seen. I have no issues with it but I use it more of as armored kaftan sort of arrangement rather than an under-armor liner. Be sure to tell them if you want yours lighter.

I have one and my fiance has one and our knight has one- all are outstanding- very good quality, well made and fit well. I plan on ordering another one of a different style for myself soon. My fiance and I have gamboised cuisses, helmet padding and some underclothes from them too. Very happy. Mine is in the pic- I couldn't find a pic of the three of us wearing them small enough that AA would allow me to post

Had one for a few years, had to sell it off due to weight loss. It was excellent!

And it fit me when I bought it, but it's now on my work list to move the ties so I can tighten it more.

Yes, folks, Steel Mastery gambesons magically promote weight loss :)

Thanks for the replies. It is just I was a bit wary due not being a secure site and entering credit card info. Never can be too careful.

I had one for several years, but only used it for the first couple. I'd have kept using it, but I moved to a warmer place, and didn't want to die from heat stroke. This thing had so much batting in it when it first showed up that it could stand up on its own. I fought in it a couple times with no actual hard torso armor on; just the gambeson. I don't recommend that, but I was very new/poor at the time, and living in a light hitting kingdom, so I lived. It took about 3 months to arrive, but it was totally worth the wait. The sleeves were even long enough. If you can affort the wait, I would totally recommend their stuff.

I'm 6'11" and 22 stone, ordered online and gave measurements, basically the first time something has come and fit me properly which was a novelty, long enough sleeves is truly a rarity for me. It was an eastern style gambeson and the shoulder loop had to be moved was about all that was required. I would go for three layers of batting if you are planning steel fighting two for anything else because the layers as mentioned are pretty solid. I paid by card and there were no issues afterwards
