Wanted: 16th century Splint arms

Post by edli »

Hi
I'm looking for a pair of splint arms of 16th century origin, I believe it's part of an almain rivet munition armor, like this.

In a more simplified version, only with forearm, couter, rear arm and spaulder without the sliding gauntlet. So pretty much any splinted arms would do.

Thanks

I have set of those in progress - oil blackened mild steel, with removable hand pieces. All they need to be finished are buckles and finishing the straps. As is I'd ask $200 for the pair... $275 if I have to finish the buckles (only 6 of them, but I've never liked doing buckles).

measurements...
total length from shoulder point to knuckles: 27"
shoulder point to point of elbow: 13"
elbow to knuckles: 14"
width of knuckle plate at palm strap: 4.5"

The total length could be increased by about 1/2" by lengthening the long slot on the fore arm plate.

I've cobbled together this picture as a better visual reference for measurements (+ more measurements...)

Note - these are not a reproduction of any specific set of historical/extant almain splints, but a conglomeration of details from different ones. They are what I would consider "historical munition grade" -- pretty much rough from the hammer - planished but not sanded or polished. They are oil blackened, similar to some extant ones in pictures sent to me by a fellow Denizen of the Archive.
