18 gauge mild steel.
I formed the plates using my size 11 turnshoes for sizing.
Its oversized somewhat- would probably fit a size 13 shoe easily.
I used Doug Strong's patterns for the Chartres cathedral sabatons straight from the book.
It does mention that these plates are oversized deliberately, so they can be trimmed down to fit.
These might fit over modern shoes of around size 10 to 11 with a little care- They are kind of big on my narrow period turnshoes.
All shaping is done.
All plates were hammered, and have a slight dished shape. They were not rolled over a pipe.
Both toe tips formed and shaped. (Thanks again so much Halberds for that sabaton forming tool!)
All surfaces lightly sanded for a satiny finish.
All edges deburred and carefully smoothed down.
All corners slightly rounded and sharp points and edges smoothed out.
Edges gently hammered/turned out where appropriate.
All plates are ready for articulation and cutting to size.
I've done all the hard work already.
I only did basic shaping on them- They will need to be bent and formed to fit the shoes they are being made for. (There wasn't much point in making them fit my shoes...)
Easily formed with hand pressure.
The only hammering you'll need is to peen the rivets.
There are some tiny marks on the bottom sides of the toe plates, but I wasn't up to sanding them out completely.
Nothing serious, and not really visible unless you look for them.
I don't think you can even see them in the pics...And I've had armor from other armourers with worse on munition grade stuff they've sold or traded me.
So I felt it was fair to leave that..But I mention it anyway because I always disclose any flaws that I notice.
The patterns from Historical research press do not come with heel plates.
I made a set up from scratch, so these have heels.
The arms on them are oversized, and made to be cut down to shape and fit.
Easily cut with a hacksaw or dremel tool.
$75 plus shipping for this kit.
Call it $18 for shipping to US addresses.
Not interested in making another kit.
I had these already cut out from an earlier project, so I just made them up.
Not likely to offer another one, and this sale is winding down.
Not sure if I have anything more to put up here, but I'll dig some more.
