Period horsemans Warhammer sources (x-post to R&A board)

Post by Anradan MacEwan »

Hello All,

Whoops forgot to change the subject after pasting Image Should be x-post to weapons board.

Anyone have any sources online or otherwise for period warhammer descriptions, drawings, etc?

I have a head built and want to check how close it is to period. Also, want to see haft finishes/treatments.
Thanks in advance!

I have several books with pics. What style do you want? (with/without langets, butt cap, etc...?) I can scan some pics for you.

Thanks Krag, but even just the book title would be great! I am planning on entering an A&S championship with it and need the documentation mostly.
I am not sure what style the hammer that I forged is...thats part of the problem. When I forged it I just went with my gut and what the steel would give me. It doesn't have the severe projections from the face like some I have seen. The spike is basically a short (4" appprox) thick spined (1") downward curving spear head in appearance. I have punched a hole throught the head for a spike that would be used to attach the head to the haft but that is as far as I have taken the project. The head is only about 1-1 1/2 lbs so it seems that it would only be suitable for one handed use therefore it will have to be a mounted warriors weapon...right?

Basically I am trying to fit the hammer into an appropriate period and time without looking at currently produced hammers that may or may not be accurate in their design.

Sorry for the ramble and thanks for any help!
