Here is the recipe used for the Flemish brass used for the effigy of Ludowic Cortewille and his lady, 1504, Jermyn Street Museum, London.
64% copper
29.5% zinc
3.5% lead
3% tin
Commonly imported in sheet form from Cologne and called Cullen plates.
From : HW Macklin "Monumental Brasses", 1890.
This probably isn't the only formula, I'm sure it varied depending on its intended purpose. I would expect this to be a very hard and durable piece of plate.
