S.S. maille?

Post by Wulfgar Ullicsson »

No it's not a naval postal service.

What's the ideal balance of gauge to I.D. for stainless maille used in combat?
I'd like to use 18 gauge 1/4" rings, to get a good "period" look going, but I'm not sure the 18 gauge wire would hold up. Does anyone fight in S.S. maille? Any pointers?

16 gauge 1/4" holds up well but is kinda heavy. I fought in it for a couple years before going to leather lamellar.
now I use the stainless suit for live steel stuff

You might want to look at finding some 17 ga stainless... A compromise between the two. They sell 17 as EF wire, they might sell it in stainless, too... Check with your local farm store.
