Want to order a Sir Gaston's Corrizina Breastplate Kit

Post by James of York »

I spoke with Sir Gaston about reviving the Corriizina Breastplate Kit which he used to sell over 12 years ago. Here is the link to the finished product:

http://www.globaleffects.com/ArmsArmor/ ... intedh.JPG

The kit would include 2 front plates, 2 rear plates, the plates for the faulds, (all plates made of 1/4" ABS plastic) assembly instructions, and a full size pattern for the cloth.

This is based on the Breastplate on display at the Met. (It is believed that the design of the faulds may have been modified during the restoration in 1920)

http://www.metmuseum.org/collections/vi ... %2E154%2E3

He is asking appx $100.00 for the kit, but for him to re-start production of this kit he will need at least 5 more people to get this project resurected.

If your interested E-mail him at this address: chris@globaleffects.com
and please post here if you are.

In Ga. it is oppressivley hot, heat is a major factor from May- Oct. so since the breastplates are plastic I am going to incorporate places that will hold 4 icepacks all around. Instant A/C, My new name will be the Frige... (I hope it works and I dont go into shock or something)

I am number 2, just a few more to go...

Have to see where the finances are but I will likely order at least 2 sets of these if made availible, depending on sizing.

Sounds like there is some interest. As a suggestion, we should try to keep the orders relatively small so we don't end up with the giant mess of the maille order or the lamellar order. Best to think about it now rather than later if this gets popular.

How does Gaston suggest we pay? I'm sure he would like to have firm orders before he starts the work.

Put me down as a tentative yes. When the price/payment figures are firmed up, I'll give a more definitive answer. :)

I'll echo the "I'll pony up" thing.

Heck, even if I'm still too chubby to wear it, it'll be a good incentive. :D

Kits are in the works. The breastplate will now be one piece, so you can cut it in half or leave it depending on the style you want to copy.
I estimate that it will take 2 to 3 weeks to rework the tooling and get all the pieces together.

By the way, 1/4" ABS is the same weight per sq. ft. as 20 ga. steel, so look at these as period weight armours, instead of period material armours. :D
I'll let people know when they are ready to ship and you can send money and kits will be sent out

Does anyone have any images of a period covered breastplate similar to what one of these kits would look like. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to keep the breastplate solid or cut it in half...

Good photo, what book is that from?

I will include in the kit many pictures of period examples of this type of armour, as well as photos of suits I have made useing this type of breastplate.
Here a 3 links for examples.

Sorry, I have no idea where that is from. It was in my breastplate folder of pics. I know there is a similar pic in one of my books but I can't seem to find it now.

Sasuke's picture is from Boccia and Coelho's "L'Arte del Armatura in Italia", a very rare and useful book.

Boccia and Coelho's "L'Arte del Armatura in Italia"

Wow, that is rare. According to OCLC WorldCat, no library holds that work. AddAll.com shows none for sale in their 36 bookstores. Google has no hits for it. Are you certain this was published as a book?

I am interested too if you can make them to fit the more rotund of us. In particular approximately a 50" waist and a 54" chest.

Let us know if you can do that.

Thanks

Try this spelling instead: "L'Arte dell'armatura in Italia"

Damian and others waiting on the sizing,
I am sure Sir Gaston is pretty busy getting everyting together to start up production and unfortunately he is the only one who can answer any questions.
I too have a sizing question but I am a "Little Guy" so I am sure I can always trim it down.
Once the kind gentleman reads this post I am sure he will answer all your questions. Thank You,

It seems to me that making a larger size would be the standard; since it opens up the front, people with narrower waists could cut more from the center.

Chevalier Gaston,

If you please, monseigneur, could you expound a bit on the foot covering found in this suit of armor;

http://www.globaleffects.com/ArmsArmor/ ... intedh.JPG

Perhaps speaking of their construction, providence, and functionality? Those of us who live in the darkness without the light of your knowledge would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, kind Sir, and we appreciate your time.

iirc there is a photograph of such a foot covering in the Osprey Crecy book. It is on the figure of a heavily armed crossbowman. I dont remember the exact provenance of the carving, but will check it when I get home.

"The light of my knowledge"? I'm using a candle! But thank you for your kind words.

They are studded boots. I set shallow rivets into the leather uppers before they where sewn into boots. I don’t think this was correct, but it looked good at the time.

As far as size. This was made to fit someone up to a 44â€
