I usually find the "used" ones after PEnnsic.. there are a number of people who take them TO the war, with no intention of taking them home.

If you arent hooked on "used" there are any number of good manufacturers who sell good ones at a reasonable price:

windmasters hill
medieval miscellania
panther primitives

and: Cabelas has a fur-trapper wall tent that passes muster pretty nicely for general use. It looks quite a bit like some of the german camp tents of later period. The bonus is you can get a stovepipe gusset for it, and use a woodstove for mundane (or SCA, where allowed) camping.

Let me add http://www.tentsmiths.com/ to that list. I have one of their medieval bell-wedge tents (great for early 16th century) and am very happy with it.

Every year I get 2 brand new 14 X 18 pavillions with all of the bells and whistles. After Pennsic I usually sell them and replace them with another 2 brand new tents. I have one in stock now if you are interested. It has only been used as my personal pavillion at Pennsic and was just down at Gulf Wars. It is in mint condition. White with red and black serpent scales with red and black counter changed braid. 7 FOOT removeable walls with sod cloth. Top end heavy Sunforger fire retardant canvas with full set up kit. This tent retails for about $2300. You can have it for $1675, or $1475 if you want to make your own set up kit. Shipping is extra.

We accept all major credit cards. Drop me a line if you are interested.

I recently found a 12' diameter round pavillion online for less than $500. The sellers email that I used for contact is ka0osk@cox.net. He goes by Jean-Francois. These are very nice tents and quite easy to put up once you get the system down. I think these tents were originally designed for movie sets and only used once or twice.

Hope that helps.

This vendor intrigued me but I dont know of her work. Prices seem good though. There is also midwest tents and a few others if you run a search on this site.

I just got a tent from Fourseasons Tentmasters and by all accounts people swear by them, their website is not up anymore for some reason, but their prices were reasonable, and everyone I talked to say they have had their tent for years without problems.

They're in Michigan

Actually, if you learn to make your own pavilion it will be MUCH cheaper, and it's not too hard. Well, laying it out at least. It's just simple geometry. If you don't know the basics of sewing, LEARN THEM. The only thing is make sure you have a VERY good sewing machine or a lot of time and strong hands, because some hems will get to be 6-8 layers thick. Making your own pavilion you a lot of money, as you need only pay for the fabric and some poles to hold it up. Don't waste your money getting a cheap 120 dollar sewing machine though. Any machine with plastic gears/cogs/whatnot will snap under the resistance of so much canvas. If you don't have one, you should easily find someone in your local barony/canton/shire that does and can help you. Somebody has said under another topic that a lot of people think everyone in Calontir is rich because we've got so many period pavilions; not really, we just do everything ourselves instead of paying someone else to do it.

Considering the last message, I probably should mention that I have 100yds of Marine Boatshrunk 10.38oz 100% Cotton Sunforger CPAI-84 Mildew/Water/Fire Retardant material available for sale. I bought it to make the walls for my pavillion, but when the order came through, they mixed up and made walls for the pavillion, so, not to make a fuss, bought them as well.

So, I have a bunch-o-canvas.
