Reenactment group sound-off

Post by Wil »

Just curious what medieval reenactment groups are represented on the Archive. What group are you in, what time period do you do, and where in the world are you located? Tell us a bit about your group as well.

Besides Regia Anglorium & The Vikings (Hastings 2005), which I have both a 10th C. Viking and an 11th C. Norman persona, we have an equestrian group called The Knights of St. Denys. We, or at least I, prefer the 14th C., although I can do earlier or later as required. Occasionally some folks join us that do WotR, and I can cover an archer or a halberdier for that, but I prefer to ride in transitional harness or full mail.
We've been doing twice-yearly shows at the Kentucky Horse Park until the budget cuts this year, and the Ft. Miegs "Muster on the Mauwee". Patty and I do convocations in elementary schools, middle schools, boy scouts and other groups, which currently is my only form of employment. We describe the evolution of arms and armour as well as the social and political situations of feudalism as the curriculum allows. Patty also describes women's fashions, and we do a little sword play as well.

No, sorry, it's not us. While there are 5 of us, we are one family and I think the requirement is 3 different people since one group quiting would end it. When we finally sell this house and move to Tennessee, we will be in Bill's area, and in that land grant. I haven't kept up on the e-mails since the sheer volume of mindless prattle outweighs the actual information, and I don't have time to slog through 100 + e-mails a day. Martin and Bill have kept me fairly well informed through personal e-mails though.

I train down in Basingstoke, England.

The group that I train with is called The Hounds of the Morrigan. We do periods from Roman up to the start of the Civil War.

The group that I fight with is call 'God's Company of Tabor'. We are an Easten European group of Hussites from around 15c. We are doing the battle of Stanford castle in a few weeks as well as Tewksbury, Templcombe, Tintagill and Bannockburn. We are mainly a combat group but do have a few living history buffs.

I am just trying to finish of my batwing shield and am waiting for our local armourer to finsish of my sabre for me.

We, that is "Tassilos Rache" (working title at first but we are now known by it cf. http://www.die-bajuwaren.de), are a subgroup of "Projekt Merowingerzeit" and specialize in the time from 580-620 AD. We try to portray Bavarians from that time and also do other periods (Viking, Norman, etc.) as events come up. Mostly we do displays for the public, small museum events, TV projects, reconstructions, research and some combat shows.

Most of the group are based in southern Germany (Ingolstadt area) but some of us had to move north for the sake of work or University.
Most of these unfortunate "expatriates" (like myself) are planning to go back to Bavaria ASAP, as "extra bavaria non est vita, et si est vita non est ita" !

The requirement is currently six, you have to have six paid-ups to form a local group. Makes sense. Three people isn't much of a party. :)

And we're almost up to six in California!!

Regia
Vestrus Vikings
Irish Living History Society

All on hold with my move to NM; though Martin suggested combining NM and AZ to try to get a group together for Regia...(how would that compare to the size of England?)

Legio IX Hispana - circa 100 AD, stationed in Northern Britannia (and being a nice boy from Syria, I'm not too pleased with the local weather...).

Oh, you're the one. Depends on the drive to the other members. :)
