Hi Thomas-

The competition for the Queen's Jubilee Horn is Saturday the 14 and Sunday the 15th, with Hunting games on the Friday the 13th.

If you do go by all means catch up with Jeff and have him introduce you around- 4 members of Destrier are competing and you should let them know you're interested in a position as squire. I'll tell Jeff to look out for you and if it's not too crowded he may be able to get you into the gallery.

Someday -I'll- get to see him compete but for now I have to stay home and mind the shop.

That would be superb, i think i'll miss the hunting games on friday the 13th and stay out of the workshop for the day. If you heard about my dad being in intensive care a month ago on the verge of death you'll be glad to know he's accompanying me. About the squire thing, i think it'll have to be put off for a few months due to my dad coming home so soon. he can't be left alone and is still quite fragile no matter how fine he says he is. It'd be great to meet up with Jeff becuase i got very nervous last time and my dad interrupted with talking about the wall around york.

Yes, I read about your dad and I'm glad to hear he's well enough to be up and about. If the weather is fine and armour is your thing then the museum is a great place to spend the day. Even if you want to put off squiring (quite understandably), do meet the guys- Dominic, Stacy, and Rob will be there from Destrier (Jeff makes the 4th Destrier member). Toby Capwell is competing, as are Joram van Essem and Arne Koetz from Belgium. You'd be hard pressed to find a finer group and you're really missing out of you don't get to meet them.

I understand being nervous around Jeff- he scared me to death the first couple of times I met him, and I'm not exactly hard to scare. ;) Let me give you a hint- he's really very shy and he covers it up by being gruff. If he's being that way he's just as nervous as you, so take heart! :)

Have fun- I wish I could be there too!!

I'm not scared of him or intimidated he is really a nice guy. he'd be hard pressed to scare me, me being about 7 inches taller than him :D .Did i hear rumours that you were buying a summer house of sorts over here or am i imagining it? It's a shame my milanese breastplate isn't done, it'd be great to get some pointers about improving it.

Jehan, don't get me wrong, Jeff is a fantastic person, he can just be a bit -shall we say *bristly*- at times (Sasha, stop laughing! I heard that snort from here. )

Thomas, moving to England is our dream but one I'm not sure we'll ever realize. For the time being we take turns living with our friends when we come over. If we ever win the lottery, we know exactly where we want to live. *sigh*.....

7 inches, eh? That makes you just about as tall as Arne, and you're what- 15 or 16? What do your parents feed you??

If you want some pointers on the breastplate, bring it along in whatever condition it's in, I'm quite sure Jeff will be happy to discuss it with you. For some reason he loves talking about armour!

I'll bring it along then. i have at least 3 good days to planish and sand so it won't look too shabby. I might have been exagerating a bit with the seven inches, maybe more like 4 or 5.

Buhahahahahha... That's funny....

Wow Thomas this a chance of a lifetime, you go guy....

The hardest thing for me is to make a breast plate smooth and blemish free with no fun house mirrors in it. It always has grinding marks under the polished surface.

Heh, Gwen, I'll take your word for it on Jeff's personality--he's probably a "perfectionist-engineer" by nature, a hard place to be. : )

I will say this: I was very aware of how much better Red Company was doing it than the Brotherhood of the Gauntlet, at least in terms of what I wish to be doing, now, and even though I was always curious, I never got over to say "Hi." Maybe this is one source of intimidation--the sense that one is dealing with such a skilled person that you don't want to waste their time.

But it's funny--you see him just matter of factly heating up a peice of carbon steel and tapping at it on some show, and you talk to him on the phone, and he's just a regular guy who's been at it a long time.

Now you shoosh Per, I don't want to be paying pounds sterling instead of dollars for my HE goods!
