When we were filming on the longship for the History Channel (Partisan Productions' "Quest for Arthur" http://www.partisanpictures.com/arthurvid.html), the two things that we didn't plan for were:
1) Not being able to change station; since we usually rotate the watches on the oars on a regualr basis.
2) Not smiling; since we usually pass time under oars by cracking jokes, singing bawdy songs and other amusing activities.
Our folks looked fine when tumbling off the ship and "invading Britain" but rowing back and forth for different angles and different effects took a lot of time and was somewhat less then inspiring for the crew.
Our scenes under sail, taking Arthur to Avelon worked out well, since it was dark enough that we don't show up and you can't see Arthur (Mathew Amt) giggling from that distance as he lay on the gangplank athwartship, abaft the mast.
