Contact "Royal Armouries" and the "Wallace Collection", both are very friendly to hobbyists and may put you in touch with a local.
Oh, and first time I was in London, I went to "The Clink" -- a two room museum of imprisonment, the guy that runs it has his armoury upfront.
...nice fella
The Clink is a hole in the wall somewhere right up nearby the restored Globe theater.
...I'm sure you'll find the address in a tourist brochure.

You know what I find goofy?
From what I understand there are more armor shops and as well as basic interest in the subject in the United States than anywhere else in the world. The US has more active "knights" than the countries they came from.
You Europeans burnt out on this stuff? Seen one too many castles? I've heard the joke that history just means you cannot build a straight road. You keep having to go around something that is too old, and therefore too important to demolish.
I know I was pretty exited when I saw my first castle, even though it was converted into a naval museum in Antwerp. I didn't pay much attention to the displays and kept picturing the place full of beds, furniture and other things. I was more interested in the building itself.
Am I wrong?

Well, it is a bit like that sometimes!
IMHO, I think the reason that the SCA doesn't do to well over here is that we dont have the same amount of fasination for history. Those that do tend towards the huge number of 'more authentic' sigle period re-enactors, clan Ranald, Sealed knot, etc.
Americans are, as far as I have seen, much more intrested in there 'heritage' than we europeans are, (esp Scots
, which makes then much more intrested in history.Again, IMHO, I think that most of what is belived to be real about places like Scotland, etc is, a tad over romaticised?

I could just be a bit cynical, but I think most Americans have a far to romantic view of medieval history, (esp Scottish!
.Mind you, I think this is no bad thing, if it wasn't for that, there probably would be no SCA!!
anyway, straight roads are for Romans.....

I felt that I might add something to the discussion.
Yes, Virginia, there is a European Reinactment culture. I heard a European tell me on sunday that there are Eighty thousand different reinactors in Germany alone. I beleive that he may have been overestimating the case, but there really are a whole lot of 'em. Most of them (in my limited experience) will have nothing to do with the SCA, calling me "PlastikRitter" (plastic knight).
For the record, none of my rig is plastic, though I am not philosophically opposed to it, if it's not a public event such as a demo.
