Actually it's the pan for my brazier, I should have some pics of it later on tonight or tomorrow..... basically it's just a circle of mild steel with the edge curved up and fluted all the way around.....
So, now I need to document it..... where would one find information on the history of braziers ????
It's kinda neat looking...... but the key thing will be warmth so look are secondary
Look up a "Cresset". I found a lot of info for that name and it's just a period metal fire basket. They took a lot of differant shapes and are in a lot of paintings etc.
Sorry for the crappy pics, I'm waiting on Santa to deliver my new camera.... it so sucks knowing that it's in the closet but if I go to get it I will be smacked repeatedly about the head and shoulders......

The easier thing to do would be to claim it's the top of a greathelm, re-purposed as a brazier. Lots more documentation for helms. Or, is it way too big for a helm top?
Being just over 2' across I think it's a bit too big to claim as a helmet top....
I think what I am going to do is hit the library, I'm having a REALLY hard time finding flat braziers like this but I know I have seen them in old paintings and drawings, so that's my new project at the moment..... once it's documented it goes in the closet until it's needed LOL..... my wife hates that. I've prolly got a couple suits of armour hiding in my closets at any given time.......
I remember talking with Dominic Tweedle from York about their recreation of the goldsmith's house where many of the rooms did not have a fireplace but did seem to have an area reserved for a brazier. You may want to check on how they handled it.
Also check out books of hours for the winter months, etc.
Nice, but shouldn't you have found documentation for the brazier before you started working on it? What will you do if you can find nothing that even resembles that style?
Per pale sable and gules, two eagles rising respectant Or and in base an open
