sca padding/liner requirements

Post by Stoffel »

I'm working on an italian kettlehelm(aamk pg 186, second column, helm 3, only more pointed on top and less brim on the front) and am about to rivet in the leather suspension for it. My question is, will the suspension pass as padding for the top of the helm, if I pad the sides of the helm accordingly? (this helm will be worn with a bevor/siege buff) The suspension fits so nicely and virtually stops any rocking in the helmet. I have about an inch of space in the top of the helm above my head, should I go ahead and pad it anyways just to be safe?

If you have an inch of space, you should be able to easily put 1/2" of padding in and not notice it. Wouldn't the foam helm make the helmet a little quieter?

True, quiet is something this helmet could deffinatly use. I basically have my head in a bell with a sallet tail coming off the back. I was just trying to go for authentic as possible with my new stuff. Either way, I'm probably going to sell this one as a non fighting piece, and make another one a bit larger.
