locking connection for vambraces early 15th c

Can someone please show me the way these are vambraces are connected/locked in place as the pattern says these interlocking tabs are not correct. thanks.

As the article says and i would have said, strap and buckle an inch above the wrist will (and did) work fine for holding the vambrace together.
