Baronial Champion’s

Post by WilliamThomas »

I was wondering who all the Baronial Champion’s are in Atlantia. I know Lady Melisent is champion for Caer Mear, who are the other champions? Also if you could please write a little something you think the champion should represent or do for the Barony.

Thanks for the input,

I just turned in the Champion's Tabbard and Sword for The Barony of Hawkwood last weekend, as my year term was up.

When I was champion, I did my best to make it to every fighter practice, and I held two extra fighter practices a week last summer for the duration on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

I was incharge of the Baronial Loaner gear, kept up with it's upkeep, and brought it back and forth from practice. I did what I could to instruct newer fighters, but, as I am/was fairly new to all this during my term, there wasn't much I could impart on them but the basics.

I wore our Baronial Tabbard at Tourneys that my Baron and Baroness attended, and fought for the Honor of Hawkwood. I set up the Baronial Pavilion at events in which their Excellencies attended. I attended them when they requested my help.

On two different occasions at the request of my Baron and Baroness, I led a team of Hawkwood Men at Arms upon the field of battle.

I tried my best to represent my Barony upon the list field with Honor, Dignity and Prowess.

If you mean for heavy, I think the champion for Nottinghill Coill moved out of kingdom shortly after he became champion, thus we have none, though LOI's have gone in and Their Excellencies are soon to choose another.

I actually just sent in my LOI for it as well. Most of the things our Baron and Baroness wish from the champion is exactly as Dante said. Also they wish the champion to help young fighters grow in skill and kit and recruitment of new fighters and members in general. Another task set forth for our champions in the next year is to bring the barony together for war, holding unit practices and learning tactics.

Excellent input.. I also feel that when a champion intends on going to Kingdom event, that they should send a letter of intent to challenge that barony’s champion. I feel this can bring some renown to newer fighters and also add to the position.

In our barony (which is notably in the Midrealm, so therefore of no use to you, eh?) our baronial champion is the Standard Bearer for the barony; they are expected to learn how to fight sword-and-banner (or rather how to fight while holding a banner!) and stand with our Baron on the field of battle, in particular at Pennsic.

I think this is pretty darn cool, myself. ;)

In Nottinghill Coill there are:
Captain of the Levy (armoured combat)
Captain of the Guard (Rapier)
Captain of the Missiliers (Archery)
Captain of the Cavalry (Horse)

which are all considered "baronial champions" I believe.

Our Baron doesn't fight heavy (yet, putting kit together) so I would imagine the champion would still be on the field in the same manner, just not standing next to the Baron/Baroness. He'd be the representative of the Baron and Baroness. In that case, the Captain of the Guard for our barony would be standing beside him on the Rapier field of battle!

Milesent,
That is pretty darn cool. 8)

Well, I'm still baronial champion of Ponte Alto. You may remember my challenge to all other baronial champions this past summer.

The event for the challenge is past, but I invite other baronial champions to seek me out for as long as Their Excellencies of Ponte Alto allow me to defend their lands.

Kevin it is because of your words over the summer that has inspired me to search more into this topic. The shire in which I live is going to have a tournament in between the Warlord tourney and the Shire holding the field to face all comers.. which will start off as a great melee and then break into challenges ( sounds cool huh :o) Anyway since I am a very new squire and have much to learn in my duties I will not be fighting in the champions tourney, but I will be helping. And one thing that is very important to me and I wanted to stress to our new champion was to go out and seek other champions.

I *think* His grace, Duke Galmr, is the current baronial Champion of Lochmere...
