helm progress( update from previous thread)

Post by HammerHand »

I posted last week on a conical that I was constructing and I gave up on that one. I'll use the halves for some other helm. Anyways, I altered the helm pattern( made it taller; slightly longer) I was using and it is coming together alot better. I also took Duco de Klonia's advice and am working it cold( thanks Duco!!) and its going ALOT easier.

This is going to be my interpretation of the Great Thors helm. I know that His helm is traditionally a dome- style helm, but I think this will come out pretty cool. I'm also adding a slightly flared back that will have a heavy leather neck guard. And, finally, the traditional wings. I've seen different varieties-- brown, brown/ white, all white, etc., but I figured I would go with all black- in reference and respect to Odhinn's ravens. I haven't finished the wings yet- didn't buy enough feathers- but I can't figure out wether to use the same steel or brass for the inlay on the inner wing.

It's all cut from mild carbon-3/32 thickness. You really cant see the curvature of the elbow on the wing, but I hot-worked that. Just thought I would share what I've been working on. Any questions or comments welcome.

It's looking good! Please post more pics when you get more done! I would love to see how this one progresses.

Catherine's Quest is no longer in business. I may open back up at some point in the future. Thank you all for all of your support over these last few years. It has meant the world to me.
